A good third of first round NBA talent no longer comes from NCAA programs. The #1 pick last year and top pick mocked this year come from France. That’s all because the game expanded globally in the late 90’s/early 2000’s to do exactly what the NFL is trying to do right now. Wouldn’t you?

The NFL is a good 30-50 years away from a global setup like basketball had in the 90's.

There simply aren't places for potential football players in other countries to even get experience playing the game. Forget at the college level, there's aren't any equivalent teams outside the US to US high school and middle school football. There's no youth football anywhere in other countries.

Not only that, there's no real desire to build it anywhere else. Football is dangerous for participants at any level and it's expensive to put together.

While interest in watching US football could go global (and the NFL is hoping that happens), we're not going to get youth football leagues springing up in Europe. They'll stick with Soccer and basketball.
