I had step brothers who were rabid bama fans when Bear retired so I know it sucks. (From my dad’s 5th marriage. I think he meet their mom at a game with the Bear and bunch of buddies in Mobile. )
My dad always liked him and he was always really cool to my dad even though he knew he was a bag man for Ole Miss football. (Fellow alcoholics maybe)
My dad used to say we are no threat to them, Bear could care less he was bagman and every once in a while he would give my dad some good info on a good local player they couldn’t take, probably to keep him away from LSU but cool anyway. ( in 70s to early 80s Ole Miss was a dumpster fire)
My dad also really appreciated how non racist Bear was and how he integrated the SEC, and how he really cared about his players. (Versus Johnny Vaught who was practically a klansman an hated blacks, Jews, Catholics, Coast rats etc and didn’t give a shite about anyone)

We Vols know the feeling after losing Fulmer we never really recovered.
Lots of so called fans jumped ship and started wearing a different color cap.
