I think he was a consideration but more or less due diligence. Some of it was to throw Sexton a bone and grease the wheels for getting the job hire done on the timeline Byrne knew was necessary to have a fighting chance to not get plundered in the portal. Sexton wants to get all his guys more money, Alabama wants a coach as soon as possible; figure it out.

I think all the names were legitimate considerations but my hunch is Sark and DeBoer were Alabama's preferences and they knew the Sark preference was more or less "Jimmy, you tell me if he's happy there because if so then we need to move on." Day 1 was working through the complications of the considerations and picking the target. Day 2 was working through broad contract bullet points.

There is no way in hell Alabama was gonna hire Sark. That dude is the definition of a pedestrian career.
