Why would Saban retire after a national championship? Winning sustains him. If Saban kept winning he would coach until the day he dies.
Saban was always going to retire when he couldn’t win national championships anymore. He feels like that time has come.

Probably why he kept coaching after the Covid title. Even he knew that wasn’t a real title.
