UK installed an underdrain system under their grass field and still the combo of rain and freezes left the field marginally playable.

The KHSAA championships for 6 divisions is played there in late November. Turf was the better option.

People hated turf so much I doubt we'd ever bring it back. But one problem that turf caused us was that it contributed to sink holes on campus because that water wasn't absorbed the way it would've been with grass.

Maybe they could solve that now, I really have no idea. I like the grass but it has meant that Neyland has had to remain more off-limits to things like jubilees/jamborees and championship games than it would've been otherwise. Especially since those early games are murder on a rain soaked field.
