The truth is that nobody knows what the future holds. It’s all new territory hardly any precedent. Both B10 and SEC football were built on regional and state pride. Rivals became rivals over decades (some played for over a century). Rivalries and conferences formed organically, they weren’t forced into existence by outside influences like TV networks and conference expansion. So, who knows how it will play out? I for one don’t like the direction of college football. I don’t think it’s going to under, it’s here to stay. But, I fear the powers that be will undermine the rich history of college football. Hell, it started a while ago. I miss the great Oklahoma/ Nebraska games of my childhood. Texas and aTm should have never stopped playing (I’m thrilled it’s back). It’s a damn shame that Bedlam is gone! If Ole Miss and LSU ever quit playing, it would be a tragedy! Is Georgia/Auburn safe? How about ND/USC? What if some future network with a Big10 contract decides it wants Ohio State and USC instead, so it doesn’t have to pay ND? In short, nothing is sacred to those who only see the bottom line and short term goals.
