1941: Finished with two losses and no contemporary ranking made them #1.
1973: Claim is for coaches poll that awarded NC before bowl. They share it with ND, who beat them in the Sugar Bowl.
1978: Shared with Southern Cal, who beat them during regular season.
2011: Voters put them in rematch while BCS computers favored Okie State. Didn't win SEC West, but got bid to BCSNCG
2017: Loss to Auburn meant they didn't win SEC West, but got invite to CFP.

So, as an Alabama guru on all things football for years I can dissect every point made here and destroy it where even LSU fan's can grasp it.

We will skip 1941 until we get to the 1960s. Lets lump periods together, make it easier and faster.

In 1925, 26, 30 and 34 Alabama in those Championship years won 3 Rose Bowls and tied one with Stanford. The overall record was 38-0-1 with 27 shutouts

The total summation of scores as added up by me was 1133 to 111 or an average score of 28.3 to 2.8. (Mud Stomps). So, really no one can argue the points on those teams tbh

Now we move into the 1960s, Bear Bryant won the 1961, 64 and 65 National Titles. In 1966 Alabama started the season #1 and lost no games, outscoring our opponents 301 to 44 with 6 shutouts and beating Nebraska in the Orange bowl 34-7.

Now, Notre Dame somehow jumped us during the season, and whilst Mich. St. and Notre Dame played to a 10-10 tie, Bama kept winning, but they gave Notre Dame the title and put Mich. St. #2. P.S. Notre Dame would not even play in bowl games until the early 70s So, if Bowl losses were just presented as off season gifts, and not a requirement to win a title, then that is why the 73 title is legit, Notre Dame can not have it both ways. Also, in 1950 Bear Bryant's Kentucky team beat Oklahoma in the Bowl game 13-7 and both finished 10-1, but Oklahoma has the National title, go look it up. Titles were for seasons, taking a month off then playing another game after Christmas was not seen as a part of "The Real Season". No Bowls were even considered until the mid to late 60s, so MANY TITLES would have to be changed but those were the rules.

Now lets back up to 1941, this is why I accept 1941 as a title, we got shafted in 1966, so in my eyes I claim 1941, tough shiskey, drink whiskey.

1973 is explained above, the National Title was for the SEASON, and if that UPI (Coaches) poll had not already been presented we might have won, I mean a missed xtra point is not like that big a deal tbh. But if the rules state the title is for the season, and most every title from the mid 30s to the mid 60s was for the season, you can't have geeks 60 years listen saying, this is not legit. LOL, Because say so. Ha ha ha.

Now, we could have won other titles, in 74 I think USC won with a loss and tie whilst we only had one loss. Then comes 1977, Bama was ahead of Notre Dame all season, we drubbed Ole Miss34-13, Notre Dame lost to Ole Miss 20-13 (I remember these things, I just do, that score is legit, I hope, lol), we went to Nebraska and lost 31-24 with 4 or 5 turnovers, and like 3-4 interceptions then they jump us. Jeff Rutledge had me mad that day as a 13 year old, watching from Western Auto.

Then on the last day, Jan 1 1978, we beat Ohio St 36-6 and Notre Dame beat #1 Texas and they jumped from 5th to 1st, we had been #2 and the week before the moved us to #3 we could see the steal coming from the Yankee voters. We gripped and raised hell, so the next year when we were #2 and played #1 Penn. St who was undefeated it was a de facto 1 vs. 2 title game, because we lost early to USC and they lost later in the season, which made them fall towards the end of the year. If I remember that year we played USC, Missouri, Washington and Nebraska OOC Ole Bear would play them all. But when you play those Four teams OOC I think your 12-1 team trumps the others, plus we beat a 11-0 or 12-0 Penn St in the Sugar Bowl.

79 was 12-0, 92 was the Miami Beat Down.

ALL LEGIT......41 is a legit stand in for 66 and even 77.
