For those who don't know the history of college football teams in the southeast weren't taken very seriously in the early days.

The game that changed the south was the 1926 Rose Bowl. 9-0 Alabama got the surprise invite to play 10-0-1 Washington and won the game 20-19 after trailing 12-0 at halftime.
