Do we need a solution when a 12 team playoff begins next year?

Yes because committees suck. NFL doesn't use committees. They have set rules on what it takes to make playoffs. High-school doesn't use committees as far as I know. College basketball only uses a committee to select a few teams on the bubble - everyone else gets automatic bids based on record.

It is much better (and simpler) to just crown division/conference champs (based solely on record) and put those teams in the playoff. Not sure why that is so hard for NCAA to understand. Only thing I can figure is they want the committee so it can be rigged (there's big money involved). There is zero other reason to have a committee.

For the sake of this post, I'm going to assume that if you're a serious enough football fan to be posting on this board during the middle of the week in the postseason, you've all probably already seen the late Mike Leach's rant about committees and expanding the playoff. (If by some wrinkle in the universe you haven't, it's on YouTube)

His basic point was "committees suck, there should be black and white criteria and a playoff system like every other football division including the NFL". He argued for 64 teams

I think 64 is a bit much, but I'd like to see a slight modification of his basic idea: An 11 game regular season, and a 32 team playoff. The national champion and runner-up would play 16 games. Those not making the 32 team playoff would go to some sort of a bowl or other postseason game, so that everyone is guaranteed a 12 game season for budgeting.

In any case, there is no legitimate reason why this is as difficult as they insist on making it.

(There are, however, illegitimate reasons, like $ and lack of accountability, but that's another story altogether)
