QBs generally go into the portal so they can go plug and play somewhere, not to sit and learn. That's a hard sell. I think you're better off trying to develop HS guys and use the portal for a stop gap if you end up in that situation.
Maybe so...but we had pretty good luck, before the portal, with a guy who transferred and had to sit the bench for a year. A kid might take a look at 4 Alabama QBs currently on NFL rosters and decide it's worth it.

Coker transferred as a grad transfer and was eligible immediately. I'm pretty sure he saw a path to start with McCarron gone. Sims just beat him out for the job. To his credit he worked that year and was ready for 2015.
Maybe you're referring to someone else.
I won't speculate on specifics, but hopefully we will have at least one reserve QB on the current roster stick around to continue trying to develop alongside Sayin.
