The linebackers (Penn and Speights) are slow on reading plays. Due to that they are late on filling gaps. Watching Weeks, he is the best true linebacker not naming Perk. I’m not a coach but I would start Swinson over Oghoufo.

At times sure but Penn has actually been a pleasant surprise on his read and reaction throughout the season. He has been far more steady than people want to give him credit for. Speights has struggled and looked a bit slow but Penn has not for the most part. He has missed a few reads obviously but his mistakes are far less than what the rest of the defense has been.

Either our position coaches see players perform differently in practice or they struggle to identify talent. Both can be true. Some of these young guys are better than the older guys. I swear BK might've had some sort of promise to Speights because he messes up so much he should only rotate in. Penn also regressed from last year so might be the position coach.

If we’d have known that the defense would’ve been this bad regardless of moving Perkins around. I would’ve just opted for him to stay in the middle

One thing I hope next year reminds us is how great coaches can make a difference in how we perceive a player's talent. Would it be all that surprising if next year Penn, Perkins, Savion Jones, and Swinson look like dogs and guys like Wommack, Wiggins and Howard show some development? They are all talented. Look, for example, how Damone Clark was perceived in 2020 vs. 2021 when Blake Baker coached him up.

I've been beating that drum almost all season.

Also been wanting Shand to get the nod over Saivion. I almost wish Saivion could bulk up a bit and play DT. Not sure he has the frame for it though.

Ya, you can Penn or Speights on the field, not both. Theyre to slow.
