In the Iowa situation is a ridiculous thing to call. The ref wasn’t even required to call it as it was subjective. The idea of an invalid fair catch signal is about the dumbest thing the in the world for the Iowa situation.

If the player can’t do the fair catch signal correctly he deserves to be lit up.

While I agree with you in principle, I’d be pretty upset as a coach if one of my guys lit a dude up and got a 15 yard penalty for it. It would be subjectively up to the ref if a guy’s signal was valid or,not.
