I really never understood this thought process. Like losing doesn't show the AD/PTB/BOT enough.
What it does do, is looks bad to future potential recruits and coaches.

When they know people will still show up what will force their hand? Obviously we're not serious about football

Empty stadiums is lost money.
75,000 X 50 = 3.75M
That means if half the stadium is empty they lost 1.5M+ and that’s on a very low conservative estimate.
