Conference championships no longer mean shite. All about the Ship, baw.
My scenario of 3 undefeated SEC times isn't THAT far-fetched. Like I said, in under 5 minutes, I looked over the schedule and found 3 ranked, traditionally good teams, none of which play each other. We're not speculating on an outlier like Vandy to suddenly run the table. If they keep this schedule, it can eventually happen.
And the really funny thing is, just imagine if the team left out is the one that wins the playoff. You'd have an undefeated SEC team winning the national title, that didn't win the SEC. How weird would that be?
What's more, I did the math for 3 undefeated teams. I didn't bother to try to figure out how many 11-1 teams there could be. I suspect that could be a lot higher.
*if there's too many, there's at least a chance not all make the playoffs. And if that's the case, who do you leave out- the one that ends up with a 2nd loss in the SEC championship?

With a 12 team playoff, who will care? There would be a solid argument that the best spot to be in that scenario would be 3, and out of the sec championship. That team would still be in the playoff, would be seeded higher than the sec championship game loser, and would skip a tough game.
They’ll still stage the game because money, but it’s going to lose a lot of its luster.
