UTenn claims 5 national championships, but only 3 of those are awarded from legitimate sources - and even then for 1 of those 3, the final poll was taken before the bowl game, which they ended up losing.

As for UGa, they claim 6 national championships, but only 3 of those are awarded from legitimate sources - and even then the 1980 title was awarded after UGa played only one team that finished the season ranked (Notre Dame, which finished in fourth place in the standings among independent teams), their entire 6-game conference schedule came against the six bottom teams in the SEC standings, and their non-conference opponents included the two bottom teams in the Southwest Conference standings and the 7th place and last place teams in the independent team standings. A 6-5 Clemson team (fourth place in the ACC), was their best out-of-conference opponent during the regular season.
