Well, for starters, maybe they're lying, and the Alabama administration has the good sense to realize that getting into a war of words with the family and calling them out as liars accomplishes nothing.
And don't misquote me. I'm not saying they're lying. But it's certainly possible.

I guess reaching out directly (instead of releasing a statement) to offer condolences on the loss of a loved one is a bridge too far for you. I get why lawyers recommend against all contact but it can be done.
And yes, they may be lying and perhaps the university doesn't want to call them out on it for fear of making things worse. We don't know.
