It was always on borrowed time with how they shoehorned in Tech and Baylor and set the revenue sharing system up.

When the B1G first went public with Penn State it was the perfect opportunity for the stronger part of the SWC to go hat in hand (and with great stealth like the ACC did with Pitt and Syracuse) to the big 8 and merge. They would only be adding 4 and the Big 8 already had 8. The respectful thing is the smaller number checks their ego).

History has shown there are ways to get around the politics ...

Penn State did not take Pitt to the B1G
Iowa did not take Iowa State to the B1G
Oklahoma State is not joining the SEC

Personally, I think Utx used the Baylor politics to own their vote going forward. Bad for Baylor as they were the first to leave behind, but bad for Utx for probably encouraging it.

if I was Utx at the time, I probably take these 3 in the beginning
TAMU
Arkansas
Rice

Leave Texas Tech and Baylor to anchor a TX conference and Rice is AAU so that was the better PRIVATE school to be in the Big 12.

I still say moving the B12 office out of the location where the NCAA was headquartered was a big mistake and ego driven.

B1G invited Penn State in December 1989. Arkansas' Board approved the move to the SEC in August 1990.

You think the Razorbacks would've reversed course on the SEC and joined Texas, Texas A&M, and (are you fricking kidding me) Rice in a move to join the Big 8?
