It's honestly a good plan, and Hugh Freeze has been pretty honest about it. Hugh believes in high school recruiting and that pays off the most in the long run. Consistently recruiting top 5 classes year after year is what builds championship rosters and makes you an elite team year in and year out. You can absolutely go crazy in the portal like FSU did last year, or Ole Miss and Ohio State this year, if you have a solid returning roster and you want to make a run at Championship in the next year. But Auburn's roster isn't there yet. We are two years removed from some of the worst recruiting classes in Auburn history. We are much better off crushing it on the recruiting trail in 2024 and 2025 and setting ourselves up for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. If you are looking through it from that lense, then it makes a lot of sense to allocate the majority of your NIL money and resources on HS recruits as well as giving those guys opportunities to gain experience in the next year.
