If he wanted to, sure. I certainly wouldn’t “advise” against it. I’d respect his decision to go to war with his team mates and represent his university one more time.
Again, when and how did this mindset so rapidly change? Was Saban right about how greatly diminishing the CFP would be to bowl games?
ETA: Of note, rookies stood to lose more money 10+ years ago, before the rookie salary rules were in place, and virtually nobody opted out of bowl games during that era.

yes saban was right but it merely shone a light on how asinine bowl games were to begin with. win your conference? that matters. beating oregon? who the frick cares, seriously. it was glossed and glorified the entire time. take off your rose tinted glasses and realize it's NCAA and the bureaucrat lefty media that have hyped these games and raked in revenue the entire time. with thay being said, as long as the Steve's Bologna Sandwich Bowl(TM) crap is around, everyone on scholarship and especially with the NIL shite should be required to play in them
