Lots of on the job training from what I've seen. But in all the time I've known police officers all of them could tell me the many many hours spent at gun range, working out, etc. Very few talk about all the law knowledge they're required to know or many hours studying it takes to get close to the knowledge of the lawyers and judges listed. The ones I know that did were working on becoming lawyers so that probably doesn't count.
