Really no good reason why it's not.
Is there any other SEC team that has an annual series with a G5 team? I know Memphis and Ole Miss play semi-frequently but it's not an annual series.
I was a student when we last played Tulane. There was never any excitement around those games anytime they came up, we might as well have been playing Arkansas State or UAB or any other G5 team and no one would have noticed the difference. And we played them 4 years in a row, the only one that got any real attention was the 2007 game because of the Katrina jerseys not because anyone cared about the matchup itself, though props to Tulane they stayed in it for a half that year, but all the games ended up being blowouts.
I have no problem playing them occasionally like Ole Miss/Memphis or Texas/Rice but there's real good reason to have it an annual series anymore. It's been attempted, and the conclusion is there's not enough interest. Tulane shouldn't have left the SEC and we'd still be playing every year but they made their choice and the two schools have gone too far down their own separate paths to bring this dead rivalry back to any prominence in today's age.
