Aggies honor Sully for what he accomplished as President of the college in the 1880s, not for anything that he did during the Civil War almost two decades earlier OR for the manner that those actions were portrayed in the press.

Given that I hold degrees from both Universities, I can say with some authority that most Aggies are bright enough to understand this distinction, while most 'sips are not (as confirmed by several t.u. posters in this thread).
