The emergence of uga hurt the vols going back decades. Clemson is more recent.

The problem Tennessee has is that you have Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Florida St (and Miami to some degree) right in the backyard of its recruiting region all competing for the same players. That's just brutal. Someone has to come out on bottom.
