Oh. And the site you linked to shows GT as a title winner in 1990 even though they were not the consensus winners, nor the AP winner.

Maybe your self definition doesn't hold water?

Lists both WIDELY accepted polls' National Champion for the year 1990. The coaches poll came after 1942 but since it's, you know, the actual coaches, it became the secondary poll in terms of defining a National Champion after its introduction. A lot hardcore traditionalist types still don't recognize the coaches poll, and that came out in the 50's.
