The NIL just upped the stakes. Players were already getting paid.
NIL does bring legit businessmen that can actually use their advertising budgets for more than just game day ads. People have been paying celebrities forever to advertise stuff, why not let them make what they can make?
Hell, Arnold Palmer was one of the highest paid athletes well into his golden years and 40 years after he was competitive in golf. I don't see anyone hating on him.
I see the NIL not really changing much. You have your tiers of teams with money just like you always had it.
The portal? Guys are leaving so fast it almost makes no sense to even sign HS kids sometimes but this is these kids lives. If they aren't going to play, then they should be able to leave.
It does bother me to see the stars leaving smaller schools chasing that NIL money but who can blame them. Most won't go pro and $100,000 could change their lives. Damn right I would do it.
Bottom line is neither is ruining the sport. Changing it? Yes. People won't like it but people hate change and always have.
