I mean they ended up with the 2-seed because of the run in the regular season they made without him. The just beat the Warriors by a million without him. Not saying trade the guy or anything like that, but this isn’t a crazy question.

It’s easy to win by 40 when everything is going your way. Last game in crunch time they needed him badly. At the end of the game you need a player that can create his own shot.

Vegas doesn't think so. Let's not take 1 game anomaly and conclude that it's a trend.

No, because Ja is their go to bucket man, which is what they were missing at the end of game four after being up the entire game until the final two minutes.

Ja is a terrific player, but it's clear the Grizzlies don't really miss a beat when he's out.

Their defense is better without him, bar none. Ja is one of the most athletically gifted players in the NBA. Without a doubt. There is zero reason for him to be bad at defense. It's an effort thing at this point.

What they really needed in this series was Steven Adams.

You can’t replace a superstar. I say no.

But they do seem to play better defense.

They are undeniably better defensively without him, and when guys are knocking down shots the offense flows better without him.

That said, when guys aren’t knocking down shots, or the game is tight, he can go get a bucket…

We also have to remember how young he is, and between Covid year and injuries, he has basically played two seasons worth of games. I can see his career going the route of James harden or Russ where he puts up great numbers, but teams can scheme him out in the playoffs.

I could also see him going the way of Jordan (not that he will ever be that good) and being such a fierce competitor that he realizes the shortfalls in the playoffs and changes. If you watched the Minnesota series, his defense improved drastically from the first couple of games. I’m hoping that was him realizing that he has to play both ends.

And the massive question mark around him will always be healthy, with how athletic he is and fearless

He's one of the single worst defenders in the league. He's horrific defensively.

All world offensive player though

This is dumb. Ja is a top 10-15 player in the league.
