Why do folks think A&M is in the sights?

Because A&M had the #1 recruiting class.

Oh - and because a poster on an OU message board said that a&M spent $30 million on this class.

Oh - and because it's well known that dozens of schools (including A&M) have collectives - run by boosters - who are signing deals for their NIL rights. Many schools (not A&M) are even publicizing these collectives and these deals.

(You might wonder, "But if dozens of schools have organizations that are run by boosters and have such deals in place, then shouldn't all of them worry about NCAA penalties? Or more likely, none of them? But it's frowned upon to ask such questions here.)

This is absolutely a fair question. The answer is that the NCAA doesn’t have the resources to pursue everyone, so more likely they will look to make an example of one or two programs as a warning to everyone else. A&M is at the top of that list because you’ve flaunted the situation way more than others and you’re also not a traditional power.

I will also grant you it’s at least as likely that nothing comes of this.
