True. Three (Thompson, Fisher, and K) had already won NCs, and Smith and Olson won theirs in later seasons.
Also noteworthy that we beat Pitino in the regular season, who’d go on to win NCs at both UK and Louisville, so we actually beat a total of 6 National Championship coaches that season.

Ah.
Not sure, but I wouldn’t doubt it considering that you can only play 6 games (play-in teams aside) in the tournament, and it wasn’t expanded to 64 teams and no byes until 1985, so the window of possibility is limited.
It was also a bit of a rarity how the chips fell in that tournament for us. Georgetown had a rare down year, so they were the team we faced in the second round. Not too often that a NC coach like John Thompson is a 9 seed.
