There were some convictions and he knew about it early on and did nothing. He was given details and players names. Scapegoat? Did they get everyone that covered it up? No, but he does not he gets a pass. frick him and anyone that belittles rape and what it does to its victims.

Tevin Elliott was the first player alleged to have committed sexual assault on two women in 2012. When the allegations came to light, he was immediately suspended. Once he was charged, he was kicked off the football team. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Sam Ukwuachu transferred to Baylor before the 2013 season. He had previously had issues with domestic assault at Boise St. He was never part of the active roster at Baylor and never played in a game. In October of that season, he sexually assaulted a girl. He was indicted, and the school investigated. The schools investigation was shoddy. He was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 180 days to serve in jail, 10 years of probation, 400 hours of community service, and was required to register as a sex offender. The verdict has been overturned and reinstated multiple times. But he never actually played football for Baylor.

Shawn Oakman was alleged to have assaulted a girl in 2016. He was no longer on the Baylor football team at that point. He was ultimately acquitted by a jury in 2019. Even though he was acquitted by a jury of his peers, his football career was ruined when had been projected as a 1st round pick prior.

The gang rape allegation has never directly tied Briles to it. They have alleged the allegations were reported to the school and they never diligently investigated the allegations.

I'm not saying Briles is completely innocent in all of this, but I do think he has been made the primary scapegoat for most of it, somewhat unfairly, due to him being the face of the football program. To me, it appears the University, the Title IX office, and the judiciary board dropped the ball biggly hoping everything would go away until the indictments started to come out. I think Briles' biggest issue was not intervening personally and leaving it to the rest of the university to handle and investigate. And fwiw, the only one of those allegations was ever substantiated. A Baylor volleyball player received a settlement for the lawsuit she filed. The investigation actually would end up showing the football program officials having a minor role in all of this but it was the University officials who were the real culprits. That investigation showed that the university essentially ignored Title IX for years until shite hit the fan. That isn't on Briles and why Briles has never been found personally liable for anything.

Documents later produced under subpoena showed Briles did not fail to report and did not discourage victims from reporting instances of domestic/sexual abuse and that it was senior Baylor administrators who had systematically failed for decades. Baylor's own attorneys admitted to this long after Briles and a slew of others had been fired. There were also reports of local Waco police burying reports and Briles never being made aware of them.
