If you have a fixed opponent from each of the three other pods this becomes a non issue and preserves rivalry games

You can preserve them without fixed opponents. See my post on page 3. When your rival isn’t in your pod or the pod you play that season, one of the 2 remaining games on the schedule can be used to preserve that rivalry game. It doesn’t require everyone to have a fixed opponent.

True but I think the are going to rotate the pods so everyone plays everyone within a 4 year period

Year 1
Pod A will play Pod B
Pod C will play Pod D

Year 2
Pod A will play Pod C
Pod B will play Pod D

Year 3
Pod A will play Pod D
Pod B will play Pod C

They could rotate every 2 years instead of 1 so it will allow home and home games on consecutive years.
