Saw something that mentioned that MLB clubs are more likely to begin doing this now.
Formerly, clubs bought minor league teams in an effort to secure their farm systems and guarantee that the teams would still be in place years down the line. A measure to limit volatility and turnover since MiLB teams have $$$ issues.
With recent developments in the league looking out for the MiLB teams now, MLB clubs will look to dump those costs from their books because the league is now putting structures in place that promise the same stability in the minors, without the team having to bear the cost.
