My guess is those were supposed to be back shoulder throws. Which if that’s the case only 2 were garbage

Nah. All three. Coleman made an elite *adjustment*

Any time a WR is back pedaling waiting for the ball to arrive that is asking the DB to catch up.

Ummmm, yeah....

White had a few decent throws, but most were really bad. Didn't realize how bad he looked until I just watched that video. And I am a White fan. Want him to do well. And true, he didn't play with the 1s, but his throws were nowhere near where they need to be right now.

Watching Thorne now. Seems more confident and is looking better than White.

I am worried about our offense though. Hope they get it rolling this year.

Offense is finding its rhythm

quote:

Really good," Freeze said of the response by the offense. "Offense had its best day yesterday. It was complete. I mean it was, you know, we obviously, we bring them back, watch all the film and then have another install meeting and then a walkthrough at night and yesterday on the, we always get together and do a positive reel. The good, the bad, the ugly. And man, there were very few ugly things or bad things on the practice film yesterday. And he's adjusting to protections really well this week. The receivers have, are, are steadily coming on Perry, Malcolm, Bryce Cam, and obviously I thought Sam Jackson had his best practice yesterday and Robert and Camden Brown really, really had a good day."

One of the reasons why the offense is in a better spot is because of the decision making of Payton Thorne. Freeze said that the most important part of this offense is going to be getting out of bad plays and into a play that has a chance to succeed. That was an issue last season and it's still a concern for the backup quarterbacks, but he has seen Thorne and the number one offense really improve in that area throughout camp.
"I think the more they work together and the more he understands my expectations on when to kill a play and get out of one that's not good," Freeze said. "The more he can do that for us, the better off we are. I can help with until 15 seconds, but things change sometimes and you know, I think everybody's trying to maneuver around that, you know, do we hold it until 15 seconds some so that the defense can't, and then you put it all on Payton or do we try to start with 30 seconds talking to him and knowing that they still could change with 15."

With Auburn transitioning to a normal schedule beginning next week when classes begin on Monday, Freeze said he has seen Thorne and the offense really grow in the last two weeks. While there are still plenty of things to work on and clean up before this offense is ready for game action, he said they are headed in the right direction in one of the most important aspects for this offense.

This cat and mouse possibility being played after the 15 second mark is going to be interesting.

From PFF

quote:

38. PAYTON THORNE, AUBURN TIGERS

What you see is generally what you get with Payton Thorne, though he did expand his game in 2023 to include more runs. In general, he is an average passer who is a bit better when given play-action opportunities. He won’t give games away, but he also won’t create too many explosive plays with his arm. He’s firmly in the “serviceable starter” category.
