Is that required for salt water guide trips, or will it allow you to take larger groups?
Absolutely required. For any kind of jobs you do down here weather it is fishing charter, sight seeing trips, basic marine transportation. I am getting a OUPC/Six-Pack Captains License. - 6people/150 miles offshore
Basically anything you get paid to do , it is required. At this point, I am not even sure that I will do any commercial ventures with it. It was just always something I wanted to do as a goal for my profession
I have set a goal to take my test sometime in late May. That is actually fairly aggressive considering my daily schedule and it being spring. But I will get it done
There are 4 main modules to learn. I am doing the entire training alone and on line. I purchased a class that I am navigating. I activated my classes about 4 weeks ago and I just finished the 1st module yesterday and I need to take the module exam tonight.
The course has a very high fail rate for the first attempt. This is going to be a challange for me as I have not been in a classroom in 40 years. Lots to memorize, a new launguage (military seamanship) and tons of rules.
Have to make 90% or higher on all tests to pass
Then I will have to obtain or complete the following
TWIC card- Homeland security check
Back ground check
Panel 5 Drug screen
Physical exam at government agency
Adult First aid/CPR class with Defibrillator.
So just a few things to get done
