Time to bump this thread and bring to judgment all those dumb posters who thought signing Gus to a 49 million dollar contract was a good idea. My personal favorites:

I think Gus is still learning and truly believe his best days are ahead of him.

We spent millions on a giant TV... we can afford it. Good move keeping Gus

I agree. Even if this doesn't pan out it was still the right play considering the current environment.

I think comfortable Gus will produce at a higher level.

Reaching 7 mill near the end. That i can deal with and sounds fair to all.

Now here are some more level headed posters:
quote:

quote:

7-6 for seven million a year just is not acceptable without a darn good reason.

quote:

Stringed Instruments
quote:

But I can't shake this feeling that we were two games away from screaming for his head and that if we lose 4 games next year (neutral site Washington, LSU, @Georgia, @Alabama), we'll be wondering how long it'll be until we can afford to fire him.

You forgot to bump my response. I was the first to respond with “a waste of money”. 7 upvotes and 19 downvotes. Turns out, I’m a prophet

I'll take my medicine, but I am on this board probably 50 times saying the contract wasn't a concern for me but the buyout seemed high. I still think renewing Gus last year was the right move but it would have been nice to have had an option to fire him this year.
