Played CB more than S in high school. Not sure about now but before Iggy moved to CB the staff was seriously considering playing Smoke at CB as a freshman til they had more quality CB depth.
During the spring game the announcers said if the season started now Iggy would be a starter according to the coaches... make of it what you will. They could have just been talking. Wasn't aware he played more CB than S in high school though. Now that you mention I think he was playing CB when he was covering McClain on that circus catch. Are the coaches not as high on Tutt right now or something?

Harvey is the grad transfer. Just saying I think Dean, Davis and Iggy(based on what I said above) would be ahead of him.

Yeah I know just a little melt. I'm honestly just not sold on Kim or Brahms.

Something interesting from this past weekend is 4* DL Jaren Handy told Bama 247 that the Tide are #2 on his list & wouldn't say who is #1. Hank South thinks it might be Ole Miss but Handy told Wolk AU was his leader after recent visit. Handy's a bit all over the place so his favorite will probably fluctuate a lot but would be interested to see if AU is that #1 team or not

Center Jakai Clark makes Auburn ‘top school,’ and latest on his 5-star teammate Owen Pappoe (SECCountry)
quote:

Grayson center calls Auburn ‘top school’ … commitment coming?

AUBURN, Ala. — For Jakai Clark, his interest in Auburn — and vice versa — all happened fairly fast.

The 3-star center from Grayson High School (Ga.) had been to Auburn in the past with his high school teammates Owen Pappoe and Wanya Morris, but the Tigers had never shown him much interest. That’s why Boston College, Temple, Syracuse and West Virginia were the schools he focused on.

Clark said that all changed last week when Pappoe and Morris were on visits. He heard from them that Auburn coaches had been singing his praises.

That hearsay quickly turned to reality.

Tigers coaches invited Clark for an A-Day visit, just a few days after the other Grayson visits. He picked up an offer and spent some time with coaches Gus Malzahn and J.B. Grimes. In fact, it was Malzahn who personally offered Clark.

“Last time I came out here, I don’t think Auburn was all that interested in me. Now, they offered, so they watched my film and actually talked to me. The difference is I got to sit down and talk to the coaches and everything. I like all them,” Clark said. “I did [meet Malzahn]. He was the one that told
me I got offered. He pretty much just told me they like my film. They want me.”

Clark’s high school is well-known as a Georgia powerhouse. Grayson has churned out double-digit FBS players in the last two recruiting cycles. Pappoe and Morris have been the headliners from the 2019 class. The Rams send guys to the next level, and they win a lot of football games.

That’s a culture Clark wants to join.

It’s a big reason why the Tigers intrigue him so much.

“I think it’s just the family environment about the school. I know Auburn is a championship contender. I like that. You know I’m from Grayson. We’re used to winning. I want to play for a school that’s used to winning,” Clark said. “They are my top school. I’ll say that. They’re pretty much good with everything. They’re happy. They watched my film. They like me. They just want to make sure I’m making the right decision. It could be as fast as next week. It could be next month.”

The former is most likely.

The 6-foot-2, 315-pound center considered a weekend commitment, but he decided to make a return visit before doing so. He visited with his father this weekend. He’ll likely be back sometime in the next week to give his mother a chance to check out the campus and meet with Auburn coaches.

“I didn’t see everything on campus. I’m probably going to make it back sometime next week. There’s some things I still want to go see,” Clark said.

What I’m hearing on 5-star LB Owen Pappoe

To transition from Clark to 5-star linebacker Pappoe, here’s what Clark said after his visit about the Auburn talk between the Grayson teammates.

“Me, Owen and Wanya [Morris], we all talk. I’m not going to spill anything,” Clark said. “But, yeah, obviously Auburn is one of Wanya’s top 2. Auburn is one of Owen’s top 3 or 5. We’re all very interested in Auburn. I’ll just say that.”

Pappoe has been the buzz of the Auburn recruiting world in the last week. He visited last week with Morris. In the days that followed, several 247Sports Crystal Ball picks have moved in Auburn’s favor (including mine).

To give you insight in my decision to change my pick from Georgia to Auburn: This is actually something I considered doing about two weeks ago. It’s been trending this way for more than a month, even though the last public comment Pappoe made about his recruitment was stating Georgia as his No. 1 and Auburn as his No. 2.

Kevin Steele and Travis Williams have made up some serious ground here — and surpassed the Bulldogs.

This isn’t the end of the battle, but now, I expect Auburn to be the choice for Pappoe.

Georgia won’t go away quietly. There’s a little less than a month before his announcement. The Bulldogs will do everything they can to host Pappoe on visits this month, though it’s worth noting Pappoe plans to take a Penn State official visit the same weekend as Georgia’s spring game, so that takes away at least one opportunity for the 5-star linebacker to go to Athens.

Even if Pappoe were to choose Auburn, I’ve been told the Tigers coaching staff is fully preparing to battle this one out until December. For now, though, it looks like Auburn will have the commitment advantage through that fight.

No clue but he is the only CB we got in the last class. The staff planned to sign 2 or 3 but fell short.

Unless Harvey didn't play much at aYm I have a hard time believing Iggy would be ahead of him at the CB rotation since Iggy would be new to the position.

Agree on Kim. I think Brahms could be good though if he can get & stay healthy.

We got McCreary too, but I see your point.

That's just base off what I heard the announcers say during A-day about Iggy. Coaches seem really high on him too though. Harvey didn't play for A&M last year, but the year before it looks like at least stat wise he had a decent season.

I like Brahms I just don't think he's ready. Being hurt is going to slow his progress some too. Maybe Irvin or Stutts can come in and help out there.

OK TigerPaw you got me... I'm officially starting to fall for the Pappoe news.

Yeah I should have said he took a redshirt instead of just didn't play. I don't think he guy is bad by any means and won't complain if we him. Maybe he can even play some safety too? I just see this spot taking away the spot for a potential grad transfer C. Me nitpicking basically lol.

There may not be a quality grad transfer C out there. I'd rather move Horton to C than taking a GT C TBH.

I could be wrong but I think he played some safety at A&M. Sounds like AU likes him at either CB or Nickel tho

KN seems to think AU might be able to take 2 graduate transfers. He's heard some rumors about trying to find an OL transfer but no names so far. Like E said, it could come down to what's available. Sounds like Harvey is a top priority tho for AU right now

My guess is after spring practice might see some more graduate transfers pop up on the market. Maybe there's an OL guy that AU likes can add for depth

Change of plans for Kobe Hudson (Rivals)
quote:

Kobe Hudson is one of the premiere 2020 prospects in the country and he was set to announce his commitment Friday April 13, but he has decided to push that decision back.

The 6-foot-1, 183 pound playmaker out of Lagrange (Ga.) Troup County was planning to visit Florida State last week during spring break, but wasn't able to make it due to a family vacation.

He is now planning to visit Florida State and Georgia before he makes his decision. He is set to visit the Bulldogs April 21 for their spring game and a mid-week visit to Tallahassee is being discussed.

Alabama and Auburn are the two other schools Hudson is still considering and he has visited each school numerous times.

Hudson now plans to announce his decision April 27 at 10am ET at Troup County high school.

He finished 2017 with 896 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. He added an interception pick six on defense.

This question came courtesy of our own Mr. Ellitor

Auburn’s chances with top TE target Luke Deal and Tigers’ backup plan (SECCountry)
quote:

When Jackson Lowe committed to Tennessee a few weeks ago, it set off a tight end domino effect for Auburn.

Luke Deal might be the next domino.

The 6-foot-5, 237-pound tight end from Greenwood, S.C., visited Auburn at the beginning of March. He made an overnight trip with his parents and spent a lot of time with tight ends coach Larry Porter and coach Gus Malzahn.

“My highlight was probably talking to Coach Malzahn. We were just talking about the tight end need that they have, how I’d be able to play early since I’m going to be a midyear enrollee. It’s awesome,” Deal said. “They’ve been going some H-back and some tight end. They want somebody that can stay on the field and play up-tempo like they like to play. I feel like I can be that guy. They feel like I can be that guy. I really like the offense.”

One source said after Lowe’s announcement that it was time for Auburn to turn up the heat on Deal — the top tight end on the Tigers’ board right now. Auburn knows this won’t be an easy fight given Deal is from South Carolina, grew up in a Clemson household and is a top priority for the in-state Tigers.

That isn’t stopping him from looking closely at Auburn.

Deal has set up a spring official visit for the weekend of April 28. He doesn’t have a decision date set, but as of his last stop on the Plains, Deal wanted to announce his choice by June. Deal plans to take a few other spring official visits — mostly to Midwest programs — before closing in on his pick. Update: Deal’s official visit schedule will be Michigan on April 14, Notre Dame mid-week from April 16-18 and Ohio State the weekend of April 20.

For now, I see Auburn as one of two realistic landings spots for Deal. Clemson is the other. If Auburn hits a home run on the official visit later this month, anything can happen.

But @Ellitor_AU asks the smart follow-up: What if he doesn’t pick Auburn? What’s the backup plan?

Well, the questioner clearly follows recruiting closely because Auburn does plan to take two tight ends this recruiting cycle. That’s always subject to change, but that was the wish going into this cycle, and that hasn’t changed yet with most of Auburn’s top targets still uncommitted.

If the Tigers miss on Deal, the most likely tight end commits would be as followed (in order):

Tyler Fromm, Warner Robins, Ga.
Sean Brown, Rome, Ga.
Jamin Graham, Attalla, Ala.
Nikolas Ognenovic, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Jeffrey Blake, Norcross, Ga.
Jeremiah Johnson, Homerville, Ga.

Fromm and Brown are the most likely candidates — especially Fromm. He has been to Auburn three times in the last month, and quite frankly, that’s a lot no matter how close to home it is. Fromm has taken three very different visits. He’s been up for a junior day, a solo midweek visit and the spring game. It’s clear he’s prioritizing Auburn and vice versa.

Brown was once an Auburn lean, and I’m not ruling it out for now, but he was equally impressed by Tenneseee. The Volunteers still plan to take a second tight end along with Lowe, so there’s still a spot for him. He makes his decision on May 12, so Auburn needs to get him on campus before then.

The final four — Graham, Ognenovic, Blake and Johnson — have all been on Auburn’s campus in the last month. They haven’t received offers yet, but that’s because the Tigers are waiting to see what they hear from Fromm and Brown in the coming months. Auburn isn’t pressuring either of those prospects yet, so the other four will just have to wait if they hope to join the Tigers.

Texas cornerback Marcus Banks explains why he could see himself playing at Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:

Standout CB details Auburn interest, initial visit

AUBURN, Ala. — Marcus Banks is someone everyone should want to see succeed, regardless of his final destination.

The 4-star cornerback from Houston is a highly coveted defensive back for programs that include Auburn, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor and LSU. His father Bobby Meeks, a former Florida State football player, passed away unexpectedly in mid-March. Banks lost his father and his No. 1 recruiting mentor. Given the news, nobody would’ve blamed him for taking a few weeks or months off from the recruiting mayhem.

Auburn certainly would’ve understood if he decided against taking his A-Day visit. But Banks wanted to make it anyway to continue his path to a college scholarship in his father’s honor. His father’s birthday would’ve been Sunday, after Banks left his Auburn visit.

“I miss you so much. Happy birthday to my Pops. I love you. I know you are enjoying yourself up there with the good Lord. Can’t wait until I get to see you again. #ForPops,” Banks tweeted early morning Sunday.

Despite the tragedy, Banks and his mother visited Auburn over the weekend. It was all good vibes between the star cornerback and Tigers coaches. Banks wasn’t naming any leaders when he left, but he said the “good feeling” he got at Auburn was matched by those four other programs. So far, he has official visits set up to Texas and Texas A&M.

Banks said he also plans to take a spring official visit to Auburn and will set it up with defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson. That visit likely will be in May.

Based on first impressions, Auburn is a legitimate contender for the out-of-state prospect.

“When I go to all the colleges, I want to get a good feeling about it. If something doesn’t sit right with me, then it might not be the right place for me. Overall, I have a good feeling at this place. I got to meet some of the players in the team meeting room. I got a good feeling of the coaches and the atmosphere,” Banks said. “It was real fun. It was great hospitality being around the coaches. I love the coaches. I love coach Woodson. I talked to coach Gus [Malzahn]. He was a real genuine dude, real levelheaded, real humble guy. He pushed academics. It was an overall good feeling. I could see myself playing here.”

It won’t be easy for Auburn to pull a top prospect out of Texas. Banks said he isn’t set on staying in the Lone Star State, though three of his top options are within the borders. Still, he has called LSU his leader previously, so the idea of leaving the state isn’t far-fetched.

What’s interesting, however, is why Banks started to show interest in Auburn initially.

He was on an unofficial visit to Texas A&M last fall when he watched Auburn knock off the Aggies. All day, Banks was impressed with No. 6 at cornerback, so he started to look more into what the Tigers do defensively. He found a program that seriously caught his attention.

“I love the defense. That’s what drew my attention from the Texas A&M game. I was actually there on an A&M visit. I was watching Carlton Davis from Auburn. He really drew my attention and just the defensive style,” Banks said. “They play aggressive. I love that defense. Before you know it, they had offered me. I made a point to come down here and take a look at it myself.”

Banks will go to Texas A&M on April 27 for an official visit. His official visit to Texas will be May 5.

Top 2020 target changes commitment date, but don’t fret

Many Auburn were expecting a new commitment from the 2020 class at the end of this week.

As I wrote last week, Troup County (LaGrange, Ga.) wide receiver Kobe Hudson was set to make his college decision on Friday. It was down to Auburn, Georgia and Alabama, with Florida State trying to hang around. As Rivals.com’s Chad Simmons reported, Hudson has made a minor adjustment to his timeline.

He said he will now announce his decision two Fridays later on April 27.

I’ve had a few Auburn fans reach out to me — as a result it’ll probably be my Tuesday question of the day — asking if this was a bad sign for the Tigers.

Short answer: Not at all.

When Hudson made his original plan, he wanted to use his spring break to take a visit to Florida State and Georgia. That didn’t end up happening, but he still wants to take those visits. Hudson is one of the southeast’s top prospects, and a source close to him told SEC Country that coaches from Alabama, Florida State and Georgia have asked him to hold off on his decision until he can make a visit there.

But that’s not the only reason he moved the date.

It made more sense for some of his family members for it to be April 27. That will allow a few people close to Hudson, who were unable to make the April 13 date, to be there.

Auburn has aced this recruitment from the jump. While Rodney Garner is the area recruiter in Georgia — and he’s the one who recruited Andy Boykin and King Mwikuta — a source close to Hudson said it has actually been Gus Malzahn who has taken a very hands-on approach to this Hudson recruitment. Malzahn has made it clear to Hudson he wants him to be the lead recruiter and face of the class for 2020.

As one source put it, all these other schools are “chasing” Auburn in this one. Georgia, Florida State and Alabama have two more weeks to make their pitch, but Malzahn’s prioritization here helps the Tigers in a way that will be tough for any other program to overcome.

FWIW KN seems to be echoing same thoughts. Says that Hudson wants to be the ace recruiter of the next class so he wants to be sure of his decision before he makes it because of that he's gonna focus on recruiting for that school. The UGA visits makes me a bit nervous, especially with them pushing hard for Boykin but seems like AU is still in a really good spot. Dude is elite

Grayson center Jakai Clark to make return visit

As indicated in the weekend insider — and Sunday notebook — Grayson (Ga.) center Jakai Clark will make a return visit to Auburn on Tuesday.

This will be the fourth trip to the Plains for the 3-star lineman who is high school teammates with 5-star linebacker Owen Pappoe and top tackle target Wanya Morris. According to Clark, however, it’ll be the second trip to Auburn in which he felt like a true priority to the Tigers.

The Sunday notebook hinted Clark could be on the verge of a commitment. I wouldn’t label it as a guarantee he commits on the visit, but Auburn wants him, and his immediate return visit speaks volumes. He visited with his father for A-Day. Clark will return with both parents on Tuesday to receive some extra personal time with Auburn coaches.

Keep an eye out Tuesday for the third addition to Auburn’s 2019 class.

Disabled the copy & paste for free slideshow so will just post a quick summary

Who could be next to commit? (247)

3* C Jakai Clark - Visits today with both parents & sounds likely to commit if goes well. Very close with 5* LB Owen Pappoe & 4* OT Wanya Morris

2020 4* WR Kobe Hudson - Posted this before the news of him postponing his commitment to later in April. Says UGA the main threat

4* ATH Jaylin Simpson - SCAR was the leader before recent visit & now AU has surged ahead. Plans to visit with his family later this month & chances are very good that he will commit after that trip

5* LB Owen Pappoe - Once an UGA lock now appears to be trending AU. A big reason why is his relationship with T-WILL & AU losing 3 senior linebackers. Plans to commit May 4th

4* ATH Jashawn Sheffield - He's both a WR & S target right now, KN thinks he lands at S if he comes to AU. Lists AU as his leader & will visit again later this month with his family. He will be coming with Jaylin Simpson as well who KN says is the stronger lean at this point but KN wouldn't be surprised if Sheffield also committed on that visit

4* OT Wanya Morris - Huge AU target. Appears to be #1 on AU's board at OT. He will announce on May 4th with Pappoe. AU/TEN battle that could go either way tho KN is hearing that TEN might still have a very slight edge. Says landing Jakai Clark could really help AU
