Haven't seen him run. Can he run between the tackles @ his size or is he an all purpose back?

His HUDL tape looks like he can. He runs low and behind his pads really well, so if he adds some weight, I would think he'd be able to. He definitely would be an APB in my mind as he has some good receiving skills and stuff, but I wouldn't consider him a "scat" back.

Definitely needs to get bigger but he has the frame to do so. He was definitely more of a change of pace back last year due to being behind 2 legit D1 guys in Anthony Grant (Florida State) & Christian Turner (Michigan) but I think he takes over as the bellcow in 2018.

That is really strange. The second link I provided is a link to just the video, not his page. If that doesn't work, blow up your computer?

Talked to a guy who knows about Cain's recruitment and several guys in FL. Cain is a trainwreck to follow, recruiting wise. He said he doesn't doubt Cain will commit/decommit several times.

So Rivals did drop new rankings today. Will post em tomorrow when i get a chance. Nix fell 3 spots but that's only cuz 3 guys had big jumps in front of him. Better than 247 dropping his grade not that I'm still bitter or anything...

Not sure, haven't seen anything on him AU related. Personally I kinda like him more as a LB but wouldn't complain if we want as a RB. One of the best names in the class for sure

Auburn recruiting question of the day: Offensive line concerns overstated (SECCountry)
quote:

There are two boxes that, if checked, ensure long-term offensive line depth.

- Sign a full offensive line each cycle — two tackles and three in the interior.
- Make sure the offensive line depth chart runs three-deep.

Because of the two-person 2018 class of Kam Stutts and Jalil Irvin, Auburn didn’t manage to check the first box during the most recent recruiting cycle. But that didn’t create as much of a depth-chart setback as the general public reaction would indicate. Assuming nobody transfers, which may not be a realistic assumption, Auburn has the ability to go three-deep along the offensive line, sans a third-string tackle and third-string center.

That can be taken care of by some positional shuffling, but the point is: A three-deep at all five positions guarantees quality depth.

Take a look (these 13 names could be rearranged in a variety of ways):

Prince Tega Wanogo — Mike Horton — Nick Brahms — Marquel Harrell — Calvin Ashley
Prince Sammons — Brodarious Hamm — Jalil Irvin — Kaleb Kim — Austin Troxell
Bailey Sharp — Kam Stutts — [vacant] — Tyler Carr — [vacant]

Now, there may be some concern beyond Auburn’s ability to fill out the three-deep, taking aim at the starting lineup it will potentially have to start with this season. My retort would be that the 2018 class wouldn’t have solved those problems. It was a down year at tackle, so few of the targets were talented enough to come in and start in the SEC immediately.

Plus, the Tigers brought in two high-caliber tackles in the 2017 class with Ashley and Troxell (both of whom, by the way, could step in soon and render this conversation moot in a hurry).

If Auburn wants to solve any immediate offensive line needs, the grad-transfer route was always going to be the smart route, hence the heavy interest in Rice tackle Calvin Anderson. That alone would allow Wanogho to shift to right tackle, his most comfortable position. And it wouldn’t force Ashley into the starting rotation if he still needs some development.

So, as @SkyeUnderwood points out in the question, the issues would be less likely to surface this season as in future years. But — again, assuming no transfers — it’s possible that Auburn brings the exact same line to start the 2019 season as the 2018 season. The Tigers didn’t have a single junior offensive lineman on its roster in 2017, which means there won’t be any seniors on the roster in 2018.

Wanogho has the size and athleticism to woo NFL draft scouts and leave early, but that would mean he’d have to have a heck of a 2018 season — once again, something that would silence critics of the offensive line.

All of this brings me back to the greater point.

There is no doubt Auburn could’ve landed on a few of its tackle targets in the 2018 cycle. Nicholas Petit-Frere, Richard Gouraige, Jerome Carvin, Jalen Goss, William Barnes and Walker Culver were just a few prospects coveted by the Tigers. But that doesn’t have much, if any, effect on the 2018 season. It may not have much of an impact on 2019, either, thanks to the youth on the roster.

If there needs to be a solution, it’s simple: hit a home run in the 2019 cycle.

Take five or six offensive linemen, filling out an entire line, if possible. Find a few elite tackle options (here is an in-depth breakdown of the line targets) who could be in the starting conversation for the 2019 season and in serious position to start the 2020 season.

Auburn could’ve done a better job recruiting offensive linemen in the 2018 class. If there’s one area to gripe about from that cycle, it’s the Tigers’ inability to land elite targets at tackle.

But it’s not a dire situation — especially with a grad-transfer solution this offseason.

Top-5 safety in nation Jaylen McCollough to visit Auburn on Wednesday (SECCountry)
quote:

Top-5 safety in nation to make midweek Auburn visit

Jaylen McCollough will be a high priority — correction, a top priority — for any title-contending Power 5 program imaginable.

Alabama, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Southern California are among the two dozen programs to have offered McCollough. That lengthy list of blue bloods says it all. Auburn added its name to the mix on Dec. 7 and will take its involvement a step further Wednesday.

McCollough will arrive on the Plains around 10 a.m. CT Wednesday, he told SEC Country. He isn’t sure exactly what his visit will consist of, or how long it will take, but he anticipates a full day. With Auburn basketball hosting a game Wednesday (against rival Alabama), McCollough likely will stay for that, as most unofficial visitors have this spring when given a similar opportunity.

This specific game is interesting timing for McCollough’s visit, too.

Auburn will be recognized at halftime with the Iron Bowl trophy for its 26-14 win over Alabama in football. Coincidentally, that game was the last time McCollough visited Auburn. That timing seems strategic on the Tigers’ part as they gear up for a recruiting battle with many of the nation’s elite programs, including Alabama.

McCollough is the No. 71-ranked overall prospect in the country and the fourth-best safety, according to the 247Sports composite. The 247Sports Crystal Ball projections cast 58 percent of the 12 predictions in favor of Alabama, which helps us understand why Auburn may be trying to use the 2017 Iron Bowl outcome to its advantage.

McCollough released a top 7 on Jan. 20. It included Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Ohio State. The 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety from Powder Springs, Ga., already has visited South Carolina and Tennessee during the spring

Auburn cracks top 10 for Texas cornerback

Auburn continues to take steps toward establishing a Texas pipeline. That’s something the Tigers coaching staff hoped would happen with the addition of tight ends coach Larry Porter last year. With one recruiting cycle under his belt, Auburn’s name is popping up more and more on the “top schools” lists for Class of 2019 Texas targets.

The latest: 4-star cornerback Erick Young.

Young is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound cornerback from Richmond, Texas. He picked up his offer from the Tigers last week, so his interest level in the Tigers is fresh. When Young released his top 10, he added a note about his future “top schools” lists. He will announce his top 5 in “40 days,” he said, so there is a timeline the Texas cornerback is operating on.

Southern California, Texas A&M, Georgia, Oregon, Alabama, Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma and LSU are the other programs in his top 10. That’s a national list, so it won’t be easy for Young to visit most of these schools in the next month and a half before he starts narrowing his list down. As a result, the relationships Young has with coaches on staff will drive this recruitment for now.

FWIW A&M is considered team to beat for him

Auburn signee Anthony Schwartz … still fast

Maybe you’ve heard: Anthony Schwartz is a track star.

The Auburn wide receiver signee has made a name for himself off the football field as much as he has on it. A 4-star prospect in football, Schwartz is ranked the No. 4 overall track and field recruit in the country, according to Milesplit.com. He’s behind a distance runner, a pole vaulter and another sprinter.

Schwartz is making a claim for that top overall spot — and certainly the top sprinter spot.

He started his last outdoor track season in style.

Schwartz won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash at the Louie Bing Classic in Miami. He finished the 100 in 10.33 seconds — his fourth-best ever — and the 200 in 20.91 seconds. Schwartz bested the competition in the 100 by .34 seconds and topped the second-place 200 sprinter by .62 seconds, both blowouts in the sprinting world.

The field included Schwartz’s high school teammate Tyson Campbell, a 5-star cornerback signed with Georgia.

The biggest threat to Schwartz’s national youth record is Schwartz. He set the record of 10.15 seconds last spring. After one meet, Schwartz looks poised to top it this spring.

Updated 2019 Rivals100: Crouch new No. 1, four new five-stars (Rivals)
quote:

The third numerical Rivals100 is out for the class of 2019 and with that comes the addition of a few new five-stars with the conclusion of their junior football season and the start of camp season. Here is a look at the changes near the top as well as the four new 5-star prospects.

There is a new No. 1 in the 2019 Rivals100, and that’s because California quarterback J.T. Daniels re-classified to 2018 (where he landed at No. 4) and left a hole at the top. The debate for No. 1 was a heated one. With a few names in discussion, North Carolina athlete Quavaris Crouch emerged as the No. 1 for this rankings release. Crouch reminds me of a bigger Ernie Sims for those who have been following recruiting for a long time or perhaps a Dylan Moses for those newer to recruiting. He can play running back at the next level and dominate, but he’s also very intriguing as a linebacker or even defensive end if he ended up on that side of the ball.

West Virginia offensive tackle Darnell Wright pushed up three spots to No. 2 while Texas wide receiver Theo Wease moved up four spots to No. 3. Rounding out the top five are California defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux at No. 4, a move up of four spots, and Georgia wide receiver Jadon Haselwood who fell one spot to No. 5.

The highest debut of a new five star was California athlete Bru McCoy, who debuted at No. 8 overall. Here’s a breakdown from our regional analysts of our new No. 1 and the four new five stars.
