The highest-ranked prospect to sign outside the Power 5 in the state, according to 247Sports, is also the highest to sign FCS. Tuscaloosa (Ala.) Hillcrest cornerback Cagan Campbell, tabbed as No. 26 overall, committed to and signed with Jacksonville State on Wednesday.

A pair of Iron Bowl signees were initially expected not to sign on Wednesday, but three-stars Kolbi Fuqua (AU) and Michael Parker (UA) received letters of intent and made things official following their longtime commitments.

19 prospects in the state signed with programs other than the school he originally committed to. Quarterback James Foster, the highest-ranked of this group on the 247Sports Composite, was a longtime Missouri pledge before inking with Texas A&M. The highest-ranked from this group on 247Sports is Arkansas signee and three-star safety Myles Mason, who was originally committed to Mississippi State.

Several of the state's top seniors will go the junior college route, including 247Sports three-stars and defensive tackle Mackie McNeal (East Mississippi), wide receiver Delonte Evans (Hinds), defensive end Charlie Ryan (Georgia Military), wide receiver Anquaevious Pollard (Independence) and defensive end Baraskious Dowdell (Independence).
Would not be shocked if Evans ended up being a highly recruited JUCO target. Liked that kids film

And perhaps the most interesting stat of all comes from 247Sports Composite No. 1 prospect in the state Justyn Ross, following his signing with Clemson University. The All-American wide receiver becomes the highest-ranked prospect to sign outside of state lines since the most recent Heisman Trophy winner from Alabama...

Why do you think he is rated so low?

Both instate Mississippi schools have had some of the best years of thier existence after signing instate kids the last few years.
Don't worry. They will go back to being SEC West's bitch starting this season and stay their after the out of state schools raid their good in state 2019 & 2020 classes.

Smart move on Ross' part. AU and UA severely underutilize WRs. Bama being the worst. I probably would have left the state too.

So is it safe to say if we don't hear a Calvin Anderson announcement for AU this week, it's likely not going to happen? I saw where he might not make his announcement until the middle of March, on his 22nd birthday.
I've got to think the passage of time after this weekend throws this in favor of Texas, where he lives. We either wowed him and his family or not.

quote:Not safe to say that. He said from day 1 he planned to commit on March 25th, his birthday. He could move that up but him not announcing this week wouldn't mean AU is out.

Like E said, I don't think that's the case. He's talked about possibly announcing earlier but he's always had a deadline date set of late March

Maybe but it does sound like came away very impressed this weekend. KN has heard that AU believes if decision is strictly football he will pick AU after this weekend. Concern is that connection with Texas and it being close to home
Anderson said after visit he might be close to making a decision but is trying to decide whether or not to visit OK. I do agree that if he decides to announce soon that's probably a good sign for AU just don't think waiting means AU is out of it. But no matter what Texas is gonna be tough to beat in this one

Georgia four-star DL: "I could commit any day" (Rivals)

THE LATEST: Who will land Rivals 250 defensive lineman Curtis Fann? Whoever does may not have to wait too much longer to put him on their commitment list.
Fann recently visited Auburn and he has commitment on his mind.
The 6-foot-3, 260 pound defensive lineman out of Twin City (Ga.) Emanuel County Institute is down to Auburn, Clemson, Georgia and South Carolina.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I have thought about committing, but I am not quite ready yet," said Fann. "I do not think it will be any later than the summer, but it could happen tomorrow or really, just any day when I feel I am ready."

LISTENING TO MOM: "My mom is helping me out with the process. We talk about this and she listens to me. She wants to be comfortable with my decision, so she has visited each school on my list and talked with the coaches. She does not have a favorite or anything, but she always asked questions to the coaches and just wants to feel comfortable when I head off to college."

AUBURN: "I have visited Auburn three times now and I have pretty much seen everything. I have a good relationship with the coaches and coach Steele is the coach I talked to the most. He feels I fit into his defense well and I like him. I like the atmosphere and the history that coach Garner has with defensive linemen."

CLEMSON: "I've visited Clemson two times and I like the environment there a lot. The coaches make it like a family when I am there. They really care about the players and everything is not just about football. That has always stood out to me."
FYI Clemson could be terrifying on recruiting trail this year. They are gonna sign a 30+ player class more than likely this year due to having a bunch of seniors this year & fact they have signed some smaller classes last 2 years

GEORGIA: "This is my home-state school, so I will always like Georgia. They won a lot this season and I like the coaching staff. I grew up a fan of Georgia, so they will always be up there for me."

SOUTH CAROLINA: "South Carolina makes me feel comfortable when I am up there. Coach Will Muschamp always has a great defense and coach T-Rob (Travaris Robinson) is a coach I really like. I like like the feeling when I am there."

MAKING THE DECISION: "Sometimes in the recruiting process, some players tend to go with the school they like the most, but I want to play for the one who really wants me and needs me. Who is recruiting me the hardest means a lot to me. All the schools are recruiting me about the same right now. Maybe Auburn and South Carolina a little harder, but it is close."
