Where does that number wind up taking out the games KJ missed for injury?

Not their fault they scored so quickly

DJ Dale committed to Bama. KN mentioned earlier wasn't a huge priority for AU being a nose guard prospect

The last true 1/2 punch Auburn had was Mason and CAP
Nah bruh....Mason set the SEC record for most carries in a game in the SECCG, IIRC.
Some of y'all just haven't grasped that this is what Gus does. He finds his workhorse back, and rides them....and it's been successful. The issue is having a capable backup ready to go. This year we didn't have that with KP being out.

3 can’t-miss 2019 cornerbacks for Auburn regardless of position plans (SECCountry)
quote:
Let’s remember one thing about my position projections. They’re exactly that: projections.
Three is a number that made sense at the beginning of the cycle given the thinness at the position throughout the spring. Generally the numbers game in recruiting is (cliché alert) a fluid situation. How many prospects a school can take in a class and how many recruits a program will take at a specific position can vary from month-to-month depending on a few factors:
- Current roster performance (changes from spring to summer to season)
- Roster attrition, whether that be transfers or dismissals
- Injuries
- Or, in this case, when really elite prospects want in
This isn’t coming from a source, or anyone else I’ve talked to about cornerbacks Andrew Booth or Tyrique Stevenson. This is strictly my opinion on the matter.
I don’t care if there are six cornerbacks committed, you take Booth and Stevenson. I’d throw New Orleans cornerback Devin Bush in with those two, as well. They’re the type of guys who don’t go all out on the camp circuit. They know the sport is 11-on-11, and that’s where they thrive. All three are alpha dogs from their territories — Gwinnett County, south Florida and New Orleans — three locations rich in defensive back history.
Auburn has taken Cordale Flott and Jaylin Simpson in this class. Projecting again, the Tigers would welcome any or all of the aforementioned three with open — wide open — arms.
Truth be told, however, that’s not how Auburn is thinking about this yet, from what I can gather.
The Tigers find themselves in the in the mix category for each of those three, but they’re probably not considered the favorite for any of them. Still, the Tigers are more involved with Booth than previously believed, something that becomes even more true with Owen Pappoe’s commitment. Auburn has impressed Stevenson, and he has taken two spring trips. The Tigers were at Edna Karr (La.) to see Bush on Tuesday.
Auburn isn’t worried about the “What do we do with the cornerback?” numbers until any of those three prospects make it clear they want to join the Tigers. If that happens, Auburn has a problem on its hands any defensive staff in the country would beg to take on.

Wanya Morris gives interesting perspective into his choice of Tennessee over Auburn (SECCountry)
Well I at least appreciate the confidence in the program

quote:
Wanya Morris explains his Tennessee pick over Auburn
ATLANTA — Owen Pappoe’s commitment to Auburn helped to gloss over an important point from Tuesday night. Wanya Morris is a major addition for Tennessee and a disappointing miss at a position of need for Auburn. Tigers commits Jakai Clark and Pappoe playfully made it clear they will work to flip Morris from the Volunteers until the end.
That attempt started well before the Tuesday night commitment.
As Morris stated after his announcement, he’d wavered back and forth multiple times, but he committed to the Tennessee staff on a Knoxville visit with Pappoe.
“Honestly, I silently committed like a month ago, so that’s about when I knew. But I was really confused still between the two, so really Sunday night,” said Morris, who is a teammate of Pappoe and Clark at Grayson High School in Loganville, Ga.
That gave Clark and Pappoe, who are close enough with Morris to have known his choice well before Tuesday, plenty of time to try to change his mind. Pappoe indicated to SEC Country on Tuesday night that he was “this close, this close” to changing Morris’ mind and that he wouldn’t stop trying.
There might be some Auburn fans out there who take this approach to Morris’ commitment: Sure, he’s choosing the Volunteers now, but he’ll flip to the Tigers after a successful 2018 season for Auburn and a tough year for Tennessee.
That philosophy won’t necessarily work with Morris.
Admirably, Morris and his mother, in a sense, look at the situation with the exact opposite perspective. They see the situation in Knoxville as a power back on the rise under Jeremy Pruitt. There’s something rewarding about being a part of that operation.
Morris wants to do that — and be a leader in the process.
“It was just rebuilding the program, starting something new. Build your own name,” Morris said. “I probably could’ve gone to Auburn and got an SEC championship off the bat. But to rebuild a program, get it back to a normal basis, that sounds really good. Me and my mother really like that.”
Well I at least appreciate the confidence in the program

Who's next to commit in Georgia? (Rivals)
quote:
We saw not one, not two, not three, but four Rivals 250 prospects in Georgia commit Tuesday night and they were teammates at Loganville (Ga.) Grayson.
Kevin Harris committed to Alabama, Wanya Morris committed to Tennessee, Owen Pappoe surprised many by committing to Auburn and Kenyatta Watson II committed to Texas.
Last Friday, four-star athlete Trezman Marshall of Homerville (Ga.) Clinch County committed to Georgia and St. Simon's Island (Ga.) Frederica Academy athlete Jaylin Simpson committed to Auburn on Monday, so some big names have come off the board over the last week.
So... Who's next?
Here are five to keep an eye on.

quote:
Andrew Booth goes about his business very quietly. He is not one who puts out information on each visit. Sometimes he likes to take his visits without many knowing where he is and he could literally commit at any time. Clemson is viewed as the favorite by many, although Booth will not confirm that is the case.
We know he is very comfortable with that staff, but do not sleep on the other Tigers. Auburn has some real momentum right now after picking up three commitments (all from Georgia) over the past week and Booth is giving those Tigers a strong look too. The in-state Georgia Bulldogs have remained in contention as has South Carolina, Tennessee and maybe a few others. Booth is one who could commit in the blink of an eye, so he's one to watch closely.

Keiondre Jones is planning to commit before his senior season, but how early will he make that decision? It is not likely to happen in May, but June is a possibility. He may or may not set a date to announce his decision, but when he does commit, it is likely to be to Auburn, Florida, Mississippi State or South Carolina.
Auburn is closest to home, but he has family (Emory Jones) now at Florida, so could it come down to those two? He has taken an official visit to Mississippi State already and the Gamecocks have been in this race from the beginning. Clemson is a school Jones still lists as well.

Here's the thing though, early last season when KP was out and KJ picked up a little ding, TONS of us were screaming to get backup RBs some reps.
But, no, as soon as KJ recovers from his ding, back he goes into heavy rotation while every other RB watches from the bench.
Yes, I know that's "what Gus does". And I know Gus sure as hell doesn't read or listen to us genius message board posters.
But just because that's "what Gus does" doesn't make it smart. Because when KJ went down in the Bama game, we were well and truly fricked in the SECCG and against UCF.

Could Ramel Keyton be next? The talented wide receiver out of Marietta is the only one on this list that has a date set. Keyton will announce his decision at 2:45pm ET on May 16, the day before the spring game at Marietta. Keyton recently told Rivals that Florida and Penn State have picked it up, but the main three schools involved here are Auburn, Ole Miss and Tennessee. So, look for Keyton to commit to an SEC school in a couple of weeks. The Tigers, Rebels and Vols love to recruit the Peach State and Keyton will be a big pick-up for the school he chooses.

Florida State, South Carolina and Tennessee are fighting to stay in this race, but Auburn is viewed as the frontrunner for Jashawn Sheffield. He saw close friend Owen Pappoe announce for the Tigers Tuesday night and on Monday, his best friend Jaylin Simpson committed to Gus Malzahn.
Is this more about when than if Sheffield committing to Auburn? There is no set date and he has talked about visiting a couple of schools before he commits, but this is one to keep a very close eye on — maybe daily.

So apparently UGA fans conspiracy theories around Kenyatta Watson Sr has made it to the recruits. Two of their 5* commits called them out on it last night (Nolan Smith & Jadon Haselwood) along with another top DL target for them. I doubt it makes a difference long term in their recruitments but would be hilarious if their melt lead to misses on other targets

Making the Case: Jashawn Sheffield (Rivals)
quote:
The 2019 class is on the clock and several of the nation’s top players have begun to cut their lists in advance of a commitment announcement.
Today, experts from the Rivals.com network examine where four-star athlete Jashawn Sheffield might end up playing his college football. The candidates are Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina and Tennessee.

THE SITUATION
Sheffield has been on the verge of committing to at least one school, possibly two over the past year. The Tennessee Vols were the first school to offer. He has visited Florida State more than any other school and Auburn has had him on campus twice in the last month. South Carolina was at his school this week and the Gamecocks have been high on his list for the last few months.
Sheffield appeals to many schools because of his athleticism and versatility on the field, and a decision could be coming soon. With a decision coming into focus, we asked our team experts to state the case for their respective programs and let National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell issue a verdict.

THE CASE FOR AUBURN
“It’s all about relationships and familiarity with Sheffield and Auburn. Sheffield has developed very strong bonds with Gus Malzahn, defensive coordinator Kevin Steele, defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns. He has a lot of trust in Auburn’s coaching staff, something he values greatly, and has been impressed with the emphasis the coaches have put on education.
"Sheffield has visited Auburn numerous times, including a weekend trip in April, and plans to return as often as possible. It also doesn’t hurt the Tigers’ chances with Sheffield that his teammate and close friend, cornerback Jaylin Simpson, is committed to Auburn. The two have expressed interest in playing together in college and if they hold true to that, it would be at Auburn.” – Jeffrey Lee, AuburnSports.com

THE CASE FOR FLORIDA STATE
“With Florida State, they have always been the dream school for Jashawn, but there were questions about what specific position the 'Noles like Sheffield at. Now we hear the Noles are locked into wanting Sheffield at receiver and have made that clear that Sheffield is a guy they want in this class.
"Auburn is the focus it seems with his teammate committing there. But with the position locked down and the impressions FSU already made on prospects getting on campus, the Noles can be a major player. The Noles will be pushing hard if they can get Sheffield back for a final visit.
"FSU can pull this off assuming that visit happens, considering FSU is his dream school.” – Michael Langston, Warchant.com

THE CASE FOR SOUTH CAROLINA
“With the commitment of his teammate Jaylin Simpson to Auburn, it appears that the Tigers may have the momentum here. But South Carolina has been a mainstay in Sheffield's recruitment, hosting his team for its 7-on-7 camp last summer and getting the duo back on campus earlier this year for a junior day visit.
"Sheffield has relationships with head coach Will Muschamp, defensive coordinator Travaris Robinson and offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon, and USC coaches spent hours at the school earlier this week, so the Gamecocks have obviously made him a priority. Sheffield's interest in potentially majoring in business also could play into the Gamecocks' favor as South Carolina has one of the top business schools in the country.
"Can the Gamecocks overtake Auburn? They may need to get Sheffield back on campus to regain the momentum.” – Wes Mitchell, GamecockCentral.com
