To give you an idea of what this weekend consisted of, here’s a rundown of a few things official visitors did. As always, they got to see the school side of things, checking out academic buildings, etc. A big portion of the football program attended the basketball game, including all of the recruits. There was a good bit of time spent at Gus Malzahn’s house, especially at the end of the night for Justyn Ross’ family.

Ross came on his official visit with his grandmother, mother and aunt. They spent some time with the Malzahn family at their house on Saturday night. Impressing mom and grandma will be critical in lifting Auburn over Clemson and Alabama in this recruitment. It won’t be easy.

Three of the four unofficial 2019 visitors — Dean, Jones and Williams — stayed overnight rather than taking long drives back last night. Dean and Jones are high school teammates from Mississippi who spent a lot of time with new defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson, who has roots in Mississippi.
AU offered Jones on the visit as well. Woodson is hitting Mississippi hard in the 2019 class. I need to check but we might have already offered more Mississippi kids in next year's class then the current one

Quay Walker spent a lot of his time with high school teammate, Markaviest “Big Kat” Bryant, as you’d probably imagine. The two are quite close and have had similar end-of-cycle recruitments with multiple SEC programs battling for their talents. Many see Tennessee and Georgia as more-likely flip candidates than Auburn. Let’s see if this weekend changes that.

All six official visitors have arrived at the Auburn recruiting complex to wrap up their official visits. The morning usually consists of final conversations with members of the coaching staff — often family time in Gus Malzahn’s office. I’d expect most of the prospects to head out around 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., but I’ll keep you posted.

One of the 2019 prospects Christian Williams, a cornerback from Daphne, Ala., is still hanging our Auburn’s campus Sunday. His whole family is with him. There are quite a lot of them. Williams is unranked for now, but don’t expect it to stay that way. He has already picked up SEC offers from Auburn, South Carolina and Ole Miss. Williams has a nice frame to him, so I can see why teams are high on him.
Man would be nice to win out for the top instate CB for once. Williams will probably end up being that guy but already has CB picks for Bama

The other two 2019 overnighters Nakobe Dean and Raydarious Jones have made it over to the complex on Sunday. As they have for most of the weekend, they’ll spend much of their time with Marcus Woodson, as well. Woodson’s connection to Mississippi will go a long way with deep classes in that state for the 2019 and 2020 classes.

I’m hearing Justyn Ross’ visit won’t end when his family leaves. Since he arrived Saturday (because of a Friday night basketball game), Ross is going to hang around a little longer when his grandmother and mother leave. He’ll spend some extra time with Kodi Burns before being taken back to Phenix City, Ala.

Caleb Johnson wrapped up his official visit. He’s got three schools most on his mind — Florida, Georgia and Auburn. He says that’s the order of how hard each of the three schools are recruiting him. The Tigers are starting to pick things up, however. He spent this weekend with more than defensive line coach Rodney Garner who had been his primary point man so far. He won’t take anymore visits before his National Signing Day decision. Keep an eye out for Auburn’s in-home visits to check his priority.
I think Tannor might be ahead of him on the board but we will see. I know KN loves this kid. Personally I am higher on Tannor but would be happy with Johnson as well. Basically any 1 from Tannor/Johnson/Langham is a solid pickup to finish off DL class

CD Daniels has left his official visit. He didn’t reveal much. Daniels said Auburn hasn’t offered yet, but he gave a smirk and a shrug when asked what’s going to happen with that. He said to stayed tuned for Feb. 7. I’m told the Tigers are trying to work out numbers, but it isn’t out of the question. He has a prior relationship with new defensive backs coach Marcus Woodson since he was committed to Memphis. Daniels said he’s looking forward to the opportunity to play for Woodson at a different spot. Daniels spent a lot of time this morning with early enrollees Asa Martin and Joey Gatewood.
Sounds like he will be this year's late NSD offer

Quay Walker departed his official visit. As expected, he didn’t do interviews. But he has a big sending-off group of Kevin Steele, Rodney Garner and Travis Williams. Walker received as much attention this weekend as any recruit I can think of in recent memory. There’s no question he’s at the top of the high-priority list.
There's always one late boom we don't see coming, maybe this kid ends up being it

Justyn Ross left his official visit and said Auburn is still in it with Clemson and Alabama despite the national perception. He’ll get an in-home visit with Gus Malzahn this week. Nick Saban has already made his in-home visit. Dabo Swinney is expected to do so, as well. Ross was able to hang out with Shedrick Jackson, Asa Martin and Joey Gatewood — three prospects he knows quite well — and that’s helpful for the Tigers. He won’t take an official visit next week, so he can use the next week and a half to form a decision with his family. He wants them to be comfortable with his choice.

Caleb Tannor was the last official visitor to leave. He was in the same jolly mood he’s always in. Tannor is down to three schools of Auburn, Florida and Nebraska, but he kept using the word “both” about his decision as if it’s down to Auburn and Florida. He plans to take an official visit next weekend to Florida State or Miami and one of those schools could get in the mix. Tannor will make his final decision on National Signing Day during a ceremony at his school. This will likely come down to Auburn and Florida. He’s much more familiar with Auburn than Florida, but he liked his official visit with the Gators last weekend.

2019 LB Vonta Bentley that blew up this past week named Bama his leader after visiting there this past weekend. Said top 2 are Bama & Miami even tho Canes have yet to offer. Curious to see if we get him on campus this weekend

Top-ranked in-state prospect Justyn Ross recaps official visit to Auburn, sets commitment plans (SECCountry)
quote:
AUBURN, Ala. — The No. 1 prospect in Alabama wrapped up his official visit to Auburn this weekend. His official visit slate is complete.
Ross took an official visit to Clemson last semester. He was at Alabama last weekend and Auburn this weekend. The 4-star wide receiver from Phenix City, Ala., only has a few steps left in his recruitment — a couple in-home visits with those three programs and his commitment.
That commitment will be made at his high school on ESPN at 1 p.m. ET on National Signing Day.
Despite national perception dictating an Alabama-Clemson battle, Ross said Auburn is still fully in this race.
“Oh yeah, it is,” Ross said after his visit.
He spent most of his time on the visit with Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns, as well as early enrollees Asa Martin and Shedrick Jackson, who he’s familiar with from the 7-0n-7 circuit and the Alabama-Mississippi all-star game.
Those relationships made this visit stick out more than previous visits to the Plains — and, boy, there have been many visits.
“Just the people. Just having people that I’ve been knew around here like Asa and Shed and those guys — I’ve been knowing them because I’ve been playing 7-on-7 against them and all that,” Ross said. “They ain’t in my ear that bad. They’re going to let me make my own decision. It’s cool just knowing they’re here.
“[What stands out is] just how close it is to home. Just how it’s a great city, how the people are around here.”
The next week and a half will be about finding the right school.
Ross will lean heavily on his grandmother and mother to help make this decision, though ultimately he’ll make the decision for himself. As of right now, Ross claims he isn’t leaning one way or another. That will be determined over the course of the next week since he’s done with official visits.
“That’s something I really need to figure out right now,” Ross said. “I really have to talk with my family about how comfortable they feel with me at each school. So that’s really the main thing. Because I feel comfortable at each school right now. It’s just about where they feel like I can live for the next three to four years.”

4-star Buck DE Caleb Tannor after official visit: ‘Auburn was always going to be in the race’ (SECCountry)

quote:
AUBURN, Ala. — When asked one specific question, Caleb Tannor didn’t hesitate.
The question: Do you like the idea of playing against Georgia?
“Definitely,” Tannor said with a smile. “You’ll see.”
The 4-star Buck defensive end prospect was once committed to the Bulldogs. In fact, he committed to Georgia over Auburn back in the summer. As the Bulldogs recruited others at his position, Tannor’s solidity in the Georgia class started to waver, which resulted in his eventual de-commitment.
That wasn’t 100 percent his choice at the time.
Now he’s glad it happened.
Tannor lists a top three of Auburn, Florida and Nebraska — in no particular order. Florida State or Miami could earn his last official visit, so those programs have an outside shot at least.
But when he referred to his decision-making process, Tannor kept referring to “both,” meaning Auburn and Florida. Those are the two programs to look out for when he makes an announcement at his high school on National Signing Day.
In Auburn’s case, he’s quite familiar with the Tigers.
“Auburn was always going to be in the race,” Tannor said. “It was close [when I committed the first time]. It was real close. I just went to Georgia because I grew up in Georgia. I grew up liking Georgia.”
Tannor said he thinks Gus Malzahn will come by his school on Monday. He’s already had an in-home visit with Dan Mullen and the Florida staff the week before he officially visited the Gators. More or less, the busy part of Tannor’s recruitment is complete, unless he ends up taking that last official next weekend.
He must now close in on his final decision.
As of now, he’s not leaning one way or another.
“No, I don’t think so. Like I said, they’ve both got the same things I need to look at,” Tannor said. “Same pros and cons. There are really no cons, to be honest. I’ve just got to pray about it and stuff like that. Then we’ll see.”
But the Tigers have made the message clear — and he likes the pitch.
“[Gus Malzahn], he wants me to come play early. I’ve got an opportunity to play early at the Buck position. What do I like about it? Just being able to run around and rush,” Tannor said. “Yeah, definitely. Definitely [can see myself playing at Auburn.”

KN put up an insider last night recapping the weekend. Here's summary
- Like Wolk's update above, Tannor says that he has a top 3 of AU, UF & NEB but most think it's an AU/UF battle. A source KN spoke to says it's a toss up right now. There's a chance he takes an OV to Miami or FSU this weekend. KN says Tannor is a take & has a spot if he wants it
- Malik Langham told UF 247 he will take an OV to either Auburn or Tennessee this weekend. Apparently AU thinks he will visit. Staff will visit him again this week to try & lock in the OV. Bama is the leader
- Sounds like both 3* DL Caleb Johnson & 3* CB CD Daniels are backup options right now. KN says AU is being patient with both. They like them both but aren't sure on spots yet. If AU has spots open on NSD then AU will probably push for these guys first
- Bad news, AU not that confident after Ross's OV that they are still in the race. Most think he lands at Bama. Good news, it's believed Matthew Hill told Clemson he plans on signing with AU. Gus will visit Hill Friday to hopefully officially shut things down
- AU feels like Quay Walker had a good visit this weekend but confidence level is not as high as it once was at fliipping him. Both UGA & TEN have become the real threats. Apparently none of sources KN spoke to think he signs with Bama. Gus will visit Walker sometime in the middle of this week & bring along Kevin Steele, Travis Williams & Rodney Garner. KN believes AU is a bigger threat than many are giving credit
- Apparently AU staff feels 2019 Nakobe Dean's visit was a hit. They also offered his teammate Raydarious Jones while on the trip. Woodson visited their school (Horn Lake) last week & KN believes T-WILL will stop by this week. Expect Dean to be a top priority for AU next cycle. He apparently holds a 4.0 GPA
- Looking like a strong junior day visitor list for this upcoming weekend. Apparently 5* LB Owen Pappoe is now expected to visit. Also AU commit 4* WR George Pickens. Earlier in the week KN reported that 2020 LSU commit DL McKinnley Jackson & 2019 4* WR Jeremiah Payton are both expected as well. Payton apparently showed out in a big 7v7 tournament in Orlando this past weekend
- Apparently Cam Newton has reached out to Bo Nix about being the QB on his 7v7 team this year. Bag man confirmed

I actually like CD Daniels. I kind of hope we take him. He reminds me of a bigger Jerraud Powers. not the flashiest kid, but he just makes plays.

Honestly I'm cool with most guys on the board. There are none that I just don't want. Obviously there are guys that you want more than others but if the worst case scenario is Caleb Johnson and CD Daniels that's a solid backup plan
Holding out hope that we pull a late surprise

I’m not sold on CD. While I haven’t seen him play football, I’ve played some basketball against him the last couple years and I just don’t think he has the athleticism for SEC caliber football.
