Quick calendar commentary
The recruiting calendar is about to give us a month of down time, sort of.
From Aug. 1 to Aug. 31, college coaches will not be able to visit high school prospects, and high school prospects will not be able to visit college campuses. This gives coaches a chance to focus on their team’s fall camp. It allows recruits to get ready for school and stay focused on their own high school teams.
For recruiting reporters, it means there won’t be as much going on in August as is generally the case.
With that said, don’t confuse the new calendar to mean there won’t be any excitement this month. I’ve been told Auburn would like to get to 15 commitments by the time Georgia Southern arrives in Auburn for Week 1 of the season. That means the Tigers still have at least four spots to fill this month.
So even without visits, it could be one of the busier months of the 2017 recruiting cycle.
Wonder if that 15 has changed some now with Coynis Miller & Andres Fox pushing their commitments back along with Zakoby McClain drama and Juanyeh Thomas no longer a take
My guess is the 4 commits they are wanting are Matthew Hill, Richard Jibunor, Zakoby McClain and Asa Martin

I want Pierce myself. He is what we need to move the chains in our offense. We have several speed backs. But nobody other than Pettway who can get behind their pads and move people. At least none who have shown it yet.

I know, I was just trying to piece together who the staff wants for those 4 extra commits. Not saying that's what will happen

I prefer Pierce over Martin as well. But I also would love to steal away a guy Bama clearly wants because I am petty like that
But if given the choice, I am taking Pierce for our system. Master Teague was my favorite back but Pierce would be a solid next option

Bama wants Pierce too. He was committed to them at one point.

4* WR Seth Williams is visiting Bama again. Second time in a week...

Supposedly it's a mutual parting of ways but could be sour grapes with Pierce leaving
Pierce is the better system fit. Martin would be a clear recruiting victory over the Tide. Wish we could do both but sounds like it's one or the other. If that's the case, I want Pierce

Doesn't Seth Williams live in Tuscaloosa?

Teague was the only one close. Still think I might prefer Pierce, but whatcha gonna do??
If we get the production from the RB's again this year, we will sign a Stud next year. Especially if Pettway goes in an early round.
I am more concerned about signing Pierce that I am Fields. (Feel free to jump all over me)
Stidham will be here two years unless the unthinkable happens, and even then, I believe he stays because he is not thirsty for the paycheck. He is smart enough to know that he needs the experience. Playing 1-1/2 years in college is not enough.
Willis and Nix give us a formidable duo for the next 3 years. If Nix wasn't lurking, I don't think Fields thinks twice. He would be committed.
Nix is a gamer.

I personally think Teague might be the 2nd best RB in this class behind White. Dude is a monster. Just glad UGA didn't get them both but wish we could have reeled him in. With that said, I think Pierce is a talented in his own right. He can be really good in our system

2019 is absolutely loaded at RB. The state of GA especially. No excuse not to get at least one big time back. I really like Tyler Goodson who splits time at North Gwinnett. Also a fan of Kenneth Bothwell instate. If we do what we should, like you said, we will snag a good back. Especially if Pettway goes pro and earns a solid draft spot

Disagree there. Pierce is a really good player. Fields is program changing good. He will help lure some of the top talent not only in this class but in 2019 as well. Whichever team gets him will be a force over the next 3 years imo

He's saying all the right things. However, if he lives up to the hype, would be hard to turn down a 1st round grade. Would love to have him 2 years

Agree on the duo comment. I don't think Fields is worried about Nix. I think if we had any semblance of a passing game past two years he would be committed. Kids are nervous about AU's offense understandably so. We start scoring again we will start reeling them in

Absolutely. I think he will challenge for the top QB spot in 2019.
It's crazy to think we could have a QB room comprise of Malik Willis, Justin Fields, Joey Gatewood and Bo Nix. I have a hard time believing it will happen but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility

New team now in the mix for Auburn, Alabama target Andres Fox (AL.com)
Not Stanford again

quote:
There is a new player in the race to sign Mobile Christian defensive end Andres Fox.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound weakside defensive end has been trying to decide between SEC West powers Alabama, Auburn and LSU for most of the offseason.
However, at Mobile County Media Days on Monday, Fox said Stanford also is now among his leading schools.
He visited both Stanford and LSU this past weekend. He's been to Auburn and Alabama multiple times each.
"It seems like a whole different culture out there at Stanford," Fox said. "I really enjoyed it. It's a different kind of people out there."
If he committed and signed with the Cardinal, Fox wouldn't be the first Coastal Alabama star to join David Shaw's team. St. Paul's defensive lineman Ryan Johnson signed with Stanford this past February and Saraland quarterback Jack West has been committed to the Cardinal for more than a year.
What makes the school so appealing to players from across the country?
"I think the University itself and the location," West said. "It's in the middle of the Silicon Valley. You have the Golden State Warriors and all those football and baseball teams. But it's also a school that will prepare you for life. I've said a lot that Stanford not only will prepare me for the next four years but the next 40. I think those are some of the things that draw guys out there."
Fox originally said he wanted to make a decision before the start of his senior year, but now it looks like that will be pushed back.
Though he only played half of his team's games a year ago after transferring from Faith Academy, Fox recorded 18 sacks, including five in one game against Cottage Hill, and helped the Leopards to the Class 3A title game.
"Andres is a superior pass rush guy," head coach Ronnie Cottrell said. "If teams get in long yardage situations, he is going to be a very dangerous weapon for us. He's very athletic. He's one of the top javelin throwers in the state, and he's got a great motor."
Fox's other offers include Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Arizona, Troy UAB and South Alabama. He is currently ranked No. 11 on 247's composite rankings of 2018 prospects in the state.
Cottrell, a former college assistant coach, said Fox reminds him of the defensive ends he was around during his time at Florida State and at Alabama.
"He's just an animal," Mobile Christian senior safety Keith Gallmon said. "I watched him when he was on the scout team. Almost every play, he was in the backfield. When I've tried to block him, he just moves me out of the way."
Fox said he has been working this summer on "trying to run down people, hustle and get stronger."
The Leopards, the Class 3A runners-up, open the season at home against Lighthouse Christian on Aug. 24.
Not Stanford again

Glad I could provide the comedic relief.
Not saying he is worried about anyone. But Nix has yet to show his full ability. If he were 2" taller, look out.
Same reason I think Stidham is around two years. If he were 6'-05" 230#, and has a goodish year, HE GONE! But, he will have to prove it more than one season IMHO.
Don't think Fields is afraid of anyone. But he and Lindsey are close. He already knows our O will be different, or we would be out of it already. He is the most athletic QB on anyone else's roster. Not ours though.
But, with Gatewood, Willis, and Nix, I am not as concerned about signing Fields as I might be otherwise. All three of those guys could be great. Add Justin to the mix, and we will have the greatest collection of QBs AU has ever had at one time IMO.

Wonder if with Gonzalez news Juanyeh Thomas or Joseph Foucha could still commit now. I honestly would be ok with signing 4 safeties plus a hybrid player given all the attrition at that position
