Rusty on UGA247 says Caleb Tannor told him Sunday he's ready to make a decision. Rusty feels pretty confident UGA will be the choice. They plan on taking 3 OLBs with Tannor, Ojulari and Anderson being the 3 top guys. they probably lead for all 3

Also said AU absolutely should not be counted out for Justin Fields. Says he hears FSU and UGA the most but AU is certainly a big factor. Says he still thinks Kearis Jackson ends up at UGA. apparently Jackson does a good job of keeping tabs on 2018 class. He apparently thinks he knows where Fields will end up

Auburn commit Shedrick Jackson on low ranking: ‘If it’s a weakness, I make it a strength’ (SECCountry)
quote:

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Shedrick Jackson’s phone continues to blow up.

The Auburn legacy committed to the Tigers two weeks ago through an iconic video with AL.com. He knew the fan base loved his uncle Bo, but Jackson didn’t quite anticipate the warm reception he’d receive from Auburn faithful.

“It’s been pretty hectic. I’ve had a bunch of people hitting up my phone, especially on Twitter,” Jackson said. “It’s been crazy, but it’s been fun. I was just glad to get it over with.”

Some might say the decision was simple. Jackson didn’t see it that way. Sure, he’d grown up an Auburn fan and his uncle is likely the greatest Tiger of all time. But Auburn hadn’t offered Jackson until this spring, so he’d forged longer relationships with other coaching staffs.

In one visit, the Tigers made Jackson realize there was no sense in waiting. He knew where he belonged.

“At the beginning, I really didn’t know. It was a process I had to go through. It opened my eyes,” Jackson said. “When I went to Big Cat Weekend, that definitely separated and solidified me as a Tiger. … It was definitely just the atmosphere. Getting out there with the coaches and the people around the city and the players, everybody, I just love it. I love being there.

Aside from the positivity he received from Auburn’s fan base, Jackson also got a chance to speak with his uncle, who was at the forefront of his commitment video. Bo offered his congratulations, but Jackson said he’d rather keep most of those family conversations internal.

It will be impossible to avoid comparisons to his Heisman-winning uncle. Jackson already has told SEC Country how he plans to deal with those expectations.

But there is another gauge that also will work to drive him. The 247Sports composite rankings — an aggregation of 247Sports, Rivals, Scout and ESPN — place Jackson as the No. 89 wide receiver in the nation. 247Sports specifically ranks him the highest at No. 59 at his position, though the site’s national director of scouting Barton Simmons has suggested Jackson should expect a big bump in the next version.

Still, it gives Auburn’s newest commit something to prove wrong.

“I’m not worried about it. It is what it is. If they feel that way,” Jackson said. “It’s motivation. It definitely is. I love hearing about stuff I can improve on. I hear all the time about stuff people think I do well, but anything people think I can improve on, I listen to it. If it’s a weakness, I make it a strength.”

4-star Florida WR Anthony Schwartz eager to see Auburn again (AL.com)
quote:

Four-star receiver Anthony Schwartz will get a better chance to see Auburn when he visits the school later this month.

The 6-foot, 172-pound Schwartz, from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., is one of the fastest recruits in the country. He visited Auburn for its spring game on April 8. He's making a trip back to Auburn as part of a road swing that will also include trips to Georgia, Tennessee and LSU.

"I have a lot of interest in Auburn," Schwartz said recently at The Opening finals in Beaverton, Ore. "I really liked the school when I went there. I'm visiting again to see if I can see myself there. The first time was just sightseeing and now I'm going to focus on the other stuff."

Schwartz liked what he saw in Auburn's offense at A-Day and feels that he fits in well. Auburn has commitments at the position from Hoover's Shedrick Jackson and Cordova's Kolbi Fuqua, though Fuqua could also play safety.

"I think they're changing a lot," Schwartz said. "They went from mainly a run offense to now throwing the ball more and airing it out."

His biggest takeaway from Auburn's spring game? "That they were airing that ball out. Usually, they didn't do that before."

Schwartz said that Florida is currently his leader, but he's considering everything. He's thinking about taking an official visit to Auburn, but wants to commit somewhere in September.

What would Auburn's dream recruiting class look like? (247)

Copy & paste is disabled so will just post the list with the notes on "how it could happen". You can tell KN is looking for stuff to talk about with an article like this

5* QB Justin Fields --> AU one of top contenders and he's visiting again this week
4* QB Joey Gatewood (AU Commit) --> AU believes he sticks regardless of 2nd QB

4* RB/ATH Harold Joiner --> now that AU only recruiting him at RB we are back in race, watch out for LSU who recently lost RB commit
4* RB Asa Martin --> Feels AU has realistic shot but have to beat out Bama, UF & possibly Clemson. Decision August 24th
3* RB Shaun Shivers (AU Commit)

5* WR Justyn Ross --> Feels like Clemson leads with AU 2nd but commitment won't come till after season giving AU chance to impress
4* WR Matthew Hill --> could commit this month & AU the favorite
3* WR Shedrick Jackson (AU Commit)

4* TE Luke Ford --> KN projects him to land at UGA right now b/c Bama will get a different TE (Anderson-Wood) but if they land Fields & show improved passing could become factor. KN admits probably one of the least likely right now to land at AU

4* OT Dylan Wonnum --> AU/SCAR battle with Cocks probably leading but AU very much in it. Decision coming in July
4* OG Trey Hill --> UGA the presumed favorite but strong year on field could turn things in AU's favor
3* OG Kameron Stutts (AU Commit)
3* C Jalil Irvin (AU Commit)

4* DE Caleb Tannor --> AU/UGA/TEN battle with Dawgs possibly in front but question is where is he on their board, AU has him a top target (FWIW with Rusty's update today it's clear UGA will take him)
4* DE/DT Daquan Newkirk (AU Commit)
4* DT Coynis Miller --> AU/BAMA battle with decision coming in August, Tigers like their chances

4* OLB/Buck Richard Jibunor --> AU the favorite, announcement coming this summer
4* OLB/Buck Quay Walker (BAMA Commit) --> Bama commit that might not be 100% and plans to take visits including AU. Flip won't be easy but it's possible
4* LB Michael Harris --> a decision could be coming soon & AU has a great chance
4* LB Channing Tindall --> AU 2nd to SCAR right now but another summer visit could make things interesting

3* CB Juanyeh Thomas --> AU big favorite. Low ranking but a top target for AU
4* CB Kyler McMichael (CLEM Commit) --> says probably the least likely of those listed here but he's still talking with AU

3* S Jamien Sherwood --> visiting for 3rd time later this month. Battling the instate Florida schools but AU recruiting him the hardest
4* S Quindarious Monday --> CLEM trending but Monday will visit again and AU once was his leader. Big season could help as well
3* ATH Kolb Fuqua (AU Commit)

This class would be worth 286.84 pts and would have finished 7th in last year's rankings

Also this class is definitely not gonna happen

Personally I would take Walker out and add a WR like Seth Williams or Kearis Jackson if we are doing best case. Also I might say drop Joiner and add Pierce or skip a 3rd RB period and add another DL like Andres Fox

Ya we are one of his top teams. Most think it will end up an AU/UF battle

I think it's a 1A/1B situation for Martin & Pierce. No clue where Joiner fits in

Hank South at Bama 247 did a mock class. Here's guys he listed that we care about

4* RB Asa Matin --> Believes Bama has seized momentum over UF & AU
5* WR Justyn Ross --> Says ppl think it will be AU/AL in the end but CLEM is a factor. Still thinks Bama in a really good position to land him
4* WR Seth Williams --> low key recruitment but says Tide in good spot tho AU/FSU working on changing that
4* TE Luke Ford --> Has Bama as his leader with UGA close behind, recruitment could last till NSD
3* OL Jerome Carvin --> Bama has been top contender for some time, will camp there this month, they like him as a guard
3* DT Jalen Cunningham --> foot injury didn't allow him to camp in June which has delayed his ability to commit, Tide the clear favorite
4* DT Coynis Miller --> Likely to commit next week to either AU or Bama. Grew up Tide fan but momma likes AU ( )
4* LB JJ Peterson --> Bama his leader with AU being the biggest threat. Plans to take recruitment to NSD

1. Yes. 2. Likely 1st come, 1st serve with Asa. Joiner is the back up plan & may even be back up to Butterbean. Been told we have picked up the pace on him.

I know you would disagree but I would take Joiner over Webb. He's a solid prospect but I think he's being a bit oversold because of his video game numbers in high school. Will happily eat crow if we sign him and he does big things but as of now hoping we don't have to go for him

Webb is easily better as a feature back right now than Joiner IMO based on their running styles. Also looking at the tape with Webb & Pierce there's not much of a difference in them at all IMO.

Hunter made an interesting post today. He said if we get Fields then Jimbo likely gets Nix.

This, to me, is incredible news. WORST case scenario right now is that Auburn has Malik Willis continuing to develop (I think he's the guy after Stidham), Gatewood comes in and has time to develop, and then Nix comes in and takes over after Willis. No guarantees in QB recruiting, but that's a good QB room.

Maybe, if I knew what that is supposed to mean. Are we recruiting that super heavyweight boxer from the 1990s now?

He's 5'9". It's either your or RandySavage that hate Shivers because he's 5'7". So signing two sub 5'10" backs is probably something you would enjoy

Edit: We are talking about La'damian Webb

It is me. I dislike Shivers because he is 5'6 and 160lbs. The height to weight ratio is all wrong. I prefer smaller backs like Dyer that us 5'9 215lbs. If Shivers wad built like Darren Sproles, he would be cool. But he is not, thus just another in the long and ever growing list of diminutive players with whom gus is fascinated.

5-star quarterback Justin Fields, receiver Kearis Jackson plan to throw in Jordan-Hare Stadium (SECCountry)
quote:

4-star wide receiver Kearis Jackson to join Justin Fields in visit

Just as I finished up this notebook Sunday night, some news hit that forced me to postpone some of my other notes until later in the week.

Rusty Mansell of 247Sports reported that 5-star quarterback commit Justin Fields won’t be alone when he visits Auburn on Wednesday. According to Mansell, Fields’ close friend and 4-star wide receiver Kearis Jackson will join him.

That’s big.

“This week, I am going to Auburn with Justin on the 13th and throw in the stadium,” Jackson told Mansell. This will be Jackson’s fourth trip to Auburn in 2017.

The long-awaited overnight visit from Fields will be even more anticipated now. Fields will arrive Wednesday and stay until Thursday, the day Jackson said he plans to throw with Fields in Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Jackson’s path toward a decision is much more clear than that of Fields. The 4-star wide receiver from Peach County (Ga.) has said he will make a decision on Aug. 19, and his choice is expected to be either Auburn or Georgia. The Bulldogs have been the perceived favorite for quite some time, but Jackson’s choice could hinge somewhat on Fields.

If Fields were to decide between now and Aug. 19, there’s a serious chance that choice would dictate Jackson’s decision, as well. Georgia and Auburn are among the handful of teams believed to have a chance to land Fields.

There is another big reason why Jackson’s return to the Plains matters.

When he left Big Cat Weekend in June, an Auburn source told me the Tigers were much more involved than previously believed, with Georgia being the only threat. The only thing to track? Jackson’s return visit. Jackson apparently had told the Auburn staff he planned to return. The Tigers felt that, if he honored that statement, then they had a legitimate chance to sway him from the Bulldogs.

It’s happening — with Fields as the kicker.

It’s also worth noting Jackson has been the primary prospect talking about a package deal this year. He said he’d like to play in college with 4-star offensive lineman Trey Hill. The Tigers sent out an interesting graphic edit last month that included Jackson and Hill with Fields, something that piqued the interest of Auburn fans and likely sent the Georgia side into somewhat of a panic.

By the time mid- to late August rolls around, there is a good chance either Auburn or Georgia could be celebrating the commitment of all three. The other? Well, the occasion could be quite the opposite.

Zakoby McClain includes Auburn in top 10

Zakoby McClain, a top linebacker target for the Tigers, released his top 10 schools on Sunday. No surprise: Auburn made the list.

The Tigers have been one of the few front-runners for McClain throughout the spring and summer, so the top list was more of a formality than anything. In fact, there was a point in the spring when McClain left the Plains saying the Tigers were his top school.

“Auburn done took No. 1. [The Tigers’ lead] is kind of big,” McClain said. “I’ve gotten real close with [linebackers coach Travis Williams]. He’s cool. He’s nice and laid back. He keeps it real with you. He doesn’t sugarcoat it. I just like the coaches. My dad wants a father-figure type coach. They’ve got that.”

Since then, McClain hasn’t visited the Tigers. As a result, other schools have worked their way into the mix for the Valdosta (Ga.) linebacker. McClain has said LSU and West Virginia are the other two teams strongly competing, though an Auburn source told me LSU is the one team the Tigers have on their radar now as a contender.

McClain is expected to return for Auburn’s picnic on July 22. When he does, I expect the Tigers to jump in as his leader once and for all. He’s only visited Auburn once, but on that visit, he saw enough to call Auburn his leader.

Could he commit this time around? It wouldn’t surprise me
.

Would be awesome if at end of this month Zakoby McClain and Michael Harris were on board
