Hopper is all about production. He is not the biggest, he is not the fastest, he is not flashy, but he has strong hands, he runs solid routes and he made catch after catch to move the chains and scores points.

I just don't think Fields is as a lock to AU as some AU "insiders" seem to think right now. If I had to take a bold guess I think rankings would be: 1.) FSU 2.) UGA 3.) AU 4.) UF

At worst I think we are ahead of UGA right now IMO.

Hope so

I honestly am not that scared of UF for whatever reason. Just feels like they were the sexy pick when he was a Penn State commit but now that recruitment is actually open it's more of a AU/FSU/UGA battle

I am hoping Corral knocks UGA out of the picture. Make this an AU/FSU battle

5* James Cook

Cook is already a five-star and the No. 16 player in the country. He was in the running for MVP honors until the end of the camp, but there simply isn’t much room for him to shoot up the rankings. He may see the number next to his name shift a few spots, but nothing drastic is in order.

I am only mentioning him because he's supposed to visit this summer at some point and June is a time of dreaming

4* Asa Martin

Martin showed why schools love him so much as a running back. He has wide receiver-like hands, he can re-direct well and he has a little burst when he gets the ball too. He runs very good, crisp routes out of the backfield and he played up to his ranking.

Everyone used to talk only about Lawrence as the top quarterback in the country, but Fields has closed the gap. He is a top 10 talent, so it is hard to improve your stock as a prospect when that high, but Fields could end up in the top five before all is said and done.

Harrison Bailey

Bailey still has three more years of high school, so he will continue to be evaluated, but he had a solid showing with some of the best in America that are two years older than him by his side. He has a big arm, good size and his offer list reflects his talent.

I don't really see AU being a likely destination for this kid but he's in 2020 class so kinda dumb to assume anything right now

Auburn 'another home' to 4-star D-end (247)
quote:

Four-star defensive end Caleb Tannor of Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove is one of the most highly recruited pass rushers in the country and right now Auburn is among the leading contenders. Tannor has a top five that includes the Tigers, Florida, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee.

With Auburn, that's a school Tannor has visited four times this year, most recently for Big Cat Weekend in early June.

"I like Auburn, it's home -- another home for me," Tannor said. "When I go there I get taken care of. I mess with the coaches a lot. I like the coaches -- Coach (Rodney) Garner, Coach T-Will (Travis Williams)."

During that last visit to Auburn, the 6-feet-3, 225-pound Tannor stayed overnight. That gave him a chance to spend lots of time with the current players. According to Tannor, that's a plus because he is able to see "what happens behind the scenes; what really goes on on campus."

As for his Big Cat experience, Tannor noted, "I enjoyed it. It's really cool. I never did something like that before."

One memorable Big Cat moment: Listening to Garner, Auburn's defensive line coach, sing.

"It was pretty bad," Tannor said.

As for a commitment timetable, one could be coming soon.

"This summer ... hopefully soon," Tannor said. "I've just got to keep thinking about it, keep praying on it, keep discussing it with my family."

What is Tannor looking for in a school?

"To be honest, wherever I fit in the most, where I can be most effective at, where I'll be able to play," Tannor said.

The reason is McElWain is not a good recruiter so far. To me this is him trying to hold us, FSU, & UGA off for Justin...

What are the odds of us taking both Tannor and Fox?

Honestly don't know. I have think we only take 2 of 3 from Jibunor, Fox and Tannor but I could be wrong. I read somewhere once Garner wants like 5 or so in this class but I think how other positions fill out will play a role

My guess is Fox picks AU and Tannor goes UGA but I would love to have both

If we get Jibunor then low IMO. The plan as of now is to take 1 true DE & 1 Buck hybrid. If we take a 5th DL it likely comes from a 3rd DT, especially with Antwuan leaving.

2018 Football Recruiting Thread -- Justin Fields visitedquote:4* OG Trey Hill Hill had a pretty dominating performance over the weekend. He has re-shaped his body, he showed his balanced strength and at times he was simply tough to move. He is light on his feet, he loves to finish blocks and his name is going to come up in the five-star discussion before long. The dream 2018 class is Trey Hill, Justin Fields, Kearis Jackson & Justyn Ross. Oh the fapping...

Auburn defensive end target Andres Fox ‘probably a couple of weeks’ away from annoucnement (SECCountry)
quote:

Top defensive end target close to decision

Andres Fox is inching toward an announcement.

He originally labeled it as a “summer decision,” but it appears that timeline is gradually moving up, it seems. On his most recent visit to Auburn, he spent Tuesday to Friday living the day-to-day life of an Auburn student-athlete. When he left, his timetable sounded like one that’s on the verge of completion.

“Probably a couple of weeks,” Fox said.

Fox has a few more visits in place before that decision.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end has one more Alabama visit scheduled before his decision. That will be one to watch. LSU also feels like it’s in good position with Fox. But Fox’s bond with Auburn seems to be the best fit and the most likely landing spot.

Often quiet, Fox was able to open up with Tigers’ players who were making jokes at him about his imminent commitment.

“They be playing around, saying, ‘Commit already — if you go to Alabama I’ll beat you up.'”

No. 1 player in Alabama names top 5

Just taking a stab at the Auburn and Alabama recruiting boards, there is probably one name that sits atop both: Justyn Ross.

The wide receiver has fluctuated between a 4-star and 5-star in the 247Sports composite rankings. He’s the No. 1 prospect in the state of Alabama. Ross is 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds, and he has the tools to do pretty much everything as an imposing receiver and a speedy playmaker.

Every program in the country would love to have him.

Alabama and Auburn are the most likely to do so. Ross moved one step closer to that when he released a top 5 schools on Sunday night. Auburn and Alabama were joined on the list by Florida State, Clemson and Florida.

It’s not a guarantee Ross stays in-state. He called Clemson his favorite visit after he left there for the first time. Florida State has made a major impression on him. Florida seems like the dark horse of the group.

But the two in-state programs have recruited him the hardest from start to finish.

Ross said he doesn’t plan to commit until National Signing Day, or at least close to it, but he will be the prospect to watch for all five of the aforementioned programs.

Auburn legacy shines in fitting event

Shedrick knows the 40-yard dash.

Hoover (Ala.) wide receiver Shedrick Jackson, the nephew of Bo Jackson, put on a show on the Plains over the weekend. Jackson returned after a game-changing Auburn visit for Big Cat Weekend and participated in camp drills.

He ran the drill his uncle is almost mythically linked to.

4.31 seconds. It’s in his blood.

The way he describe his attempt to me: “I could’ve done a little better. Had a slow start.”

At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, Jackson isn’t small in stature. But he glides when he strides. He makes it look easy. While I didn’t attend the camp, multiple people have told me even Auburn’s coaching staff who is heavily recruiting Jackson came away shockingly impressed from Jackson’s performance.

He expects to have a decision by the end of the summer between Auburn, Missouri, Mississippi State Georgia Tech and Memphis. Auburn remains the most popular prediction.

5-star quarterback breaks down busy two weeks

Justin Fields has had a hectic two weeks. He de-committed from Penn State. He shined at the Rivals.com 5-star challenge in Indianapolis. He visited Georgia. He visited Auburn. He visited Florida State. He put on a highlight show at the NFA7v7 national championship Bradenton, Fla., as the quarterback of Cam Newton’s hand-picked squad.

Fields finally broke a recent silence to answer a few of the questions circling his recruitment right now.

He spoke with SEC Country’s Zach Abolverdi at that tournament, but it was something his mentor said that might be more telling.

“Justin Fields is the best recruit in the country. Write that down,” Newton said, the only comment he’d make regarding Fields’ recruitment.

Fields has made a fast rise from semi-unknown to Most Wanted Uncommitted Prospect. He joked with Abolverdi that, at this time last year, he was just working hard to compete and earn an offer from a program like Mercer.

Clearly Fields’ priorities are different a year later — as is his confidence.

The 5-star quarterback also had three interesting comments about his recruitment going forward.

- He’s focused in on four schools: Auburn, Georgia, Florida State and Florida.
- There are three programs still being considered that haven’t been mentioned often with Fields: Alabama, Ole Miss and North Carolina.
Georgia and Florida are recruiting Fields the hardest. Florida State is close behind that.
- I’m not sure how much any of that means regarding how Fields feels about any of these schools. Recruiting harder doesn’t always mean recruiting better.

Alabama hadn’t been mentioned with Fields before, but that’s something worth watching even though the Crimson Tide are on the outside looking in. Never count them out with a top prospect.

With that said, the top four are the ones to really monitor at this time. And, yes, it would surprise me to see a Penn State re-commitment.

If Auburn has one key advantage, it’s Newton’s direct link to the Tigers. Newton’s role with Auburn recruiting can often be overplayed. But in the case of Fields, Newton is a true mentor. They are very close. Newton’s opinion likely won’t be “Hey, go to Auburn,” but his insight on Gus Malzahn and Auburn — both of which thrusted him to a national championship and Heisman — will only help the Tigers.

It’s certainly susceptible to change, but my Crystal Ball prediction for Fields is still Auburn.
