Where will the Southeast's best commit in 2018? (Rivals)
quote:
4* WR Justyn Ross
Outlook: It will likely come down to the two in-state powers for Ross, Alabama and Auburn. For Ross, Auburn is less than half an hour from his home, so picking the Tigers would keep the four-star wide receiver very close to his family. He has a strong connection with Gus Malzahn and wide receivers coach Kodi Burns at Auburn as well. You can never count out the Crimson Tide, but the Tigers are trending right now.
Way-too-early prediction: Auburn (Simmons)
quote:
4* LB JJ Peterson
Outlook: Nobody really knows where Peterson is right now when it comes to recruiting. He does not do interviews, he has not taken many visits and there is not a lot known about his recruitment at this point. Things are starting to pick up, though. He has visited Alabama and Florida already with visits to Florida State and Georgia on the horizon. If there is a favorite at this stage, it would be South Carolina. The Gamecocks signed Peterson's close friend Kiel Pollard in 2016 and that could play a big role in this race.
Way-too-early prediction: South Carolina (Simmons)
quote:
4* OG Deontrey Hill
Outlook: Hill is a prospect that has visited numerous schools and developed relationships with quite a few college coaches already, but the school he is visiting next may the one he is trending towards at this time. He will be at Georgia this weekend and the Bulldogs just signed Jake Fromm, a former teammate of Hill’s, and the in-state school looks to be a good spot with Hill.
Way-too-early prediction: Georgia (Simmons)

Three-Point Stance: Underrated three-stars, Penn State, 2018 notes (Rivals)
quote:
1. MORE UNDERRATED THREE-STARS
DE Markaviest Bryant, Auburn – The Big Cat is raw but has a ton of athletic potential and could thrive in Auburn’s aggressive defense.

Markaviest isn't even a three star.

Auburn ‘at the top, for sure’ for on-the-rise 2018 linebacker Matthew Flint (SECCountry)
quote:
On-the-rise OLB becoming an Auburn regular
Travis Williams, for one, doesn’t pay much attention to recruiting rankings. He proved that in the 2017 recruiting cycle when he sought 3-star Chandler Wooten and undervalued KJ Britt. Williams sees what he likes in a linebacker and pursues them. He has a knack for it and doesn’t need anyone else’s scouting to reaffirm that.
Matthew Flint is a 2018 example of that.
Flint is an unranked outside linebacker from Madison County Schools in Gurley, Ala. The 6-foot, 207-pound linebacker received an Auburn offer during the second semester of his sophomore year. It was actually Tim Horton — the north Alabama area recruiter — who initiated contact.
Williams has begun to make a major impression.
“I love coach T-Will. He’s a great guy. I love the way he coaches,” Flint said. “I love the way he’s out on the field with you. High energy. High motor. I love coaches like that who talk a lot.”
Auburn is among the most prominent offers Flint holds.

Auburn spending time in Alabama’s backyard recruiting priority 4-star wide receiver (SECCountry)
quote:
Enter Auburn.
The Tigers always have been in Williams’ so-called top group, which includes in no order Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Ole Miss, Georgia and Florida. The first four on that list appear to have the advantage for now because those are the four schools Williams plans to visit to in the next couple months.
Auburn already received a visit from Williams. He attended the junior day event at the end of January.
He left with a lofty appreciation of the Tigers.
“It means a lot. It means they’re actually recruiting me hard. They’re actually trying to get me to come to this school a lot,” Williams said. “It’s just like a family down here … It’s got to feel like home for me.”
Williams is a stud on the field. He’s 6-foot-3 and 202 pounds. He brings the big-bodied receiver frame fans always beg for their program to sign. Williams caught 51 passes for 667 yards and 13 touchdowns during his junior season and earned all-state honors in Alabama’s 6A classification.
Kodi Burns-Auburn recruiting
Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns (Benjamin Wolk/SEC Country)
For rankings fanatics, he’s the No. 4 prospect in the state of Alabama, No. 24 at the wide receiver position and No. 142 overall in the nation.
Williams is a stud. Kodi Burns knows it.
Hill said, of all the schools chasing Williams, Auburn has shown the most regular interest. Burns is a non-stop communicator with Williams. He hasn’t made it to Paul W. Bryant for an on-site visit, but Burns has made his presence felt plenty.
“We talk all the time … We’re always texting,” Williams said. “He wants to make me into an NFL receiver with my size and ability. He thinks I can be a downfield threat with my route running.”

Recruits on notice after seeing Parks lose Alabama spot for 2017 (Rivals)
quote:
Four-star running back Shaun Shivers committed to Auburn roughly 13 months before his National Signing Day. Did he like the fit? Sure. Does he think he’ll end up signing with the Tigers? Of course.
Still, Shivers won’t pretend the move wasn’t at least a little bit of a defensive measure.
“You have to lock up a spot,” Shivers said. “Look man, what if something happens to you? Why would you play with that? We know it’s all business with these colleges. We know these coaches are always changing everything. Some of us know. My head is always on a swivel when it comes to coaches.”
Placeholder commitments exist and will continue to do so. Every once in a while a player will commit to a school without any intention of actually signing with it. It’s a reality of recruiting. And, as the process evolves, it’s starting to look like an all too necessary one.

KN has VIP article up on Texas Tech DT transfer Breiden Fehoko. Plans to officially visit March 3rd and Garner is a big draw for him. Likes fact he has coached in SEC so long and put lots of guys in NFL. Also mentioned Montravius Adams as example of his coaching. Says biggest things looking for his player development and coach stability. Right now plans on visiting Auburn, LSU and Louisville with Georgia, Alabama, BYU, Minnnesota and Wisconsin as other possible visits.
Would be a huge pull if we could get this kid. I think LSU is the biggest threat right now though don't count out UGA

WR Ezzard talks top schools (247)
quote:
Georgia recruiting battle be emerging at Georgia's Stockbridge High?
It seems possible.
Marquez Ezzard, who claims 20-plus offers, said last week Auburn, Georgia and Virginia Tech stand out. He's a 3-star recruit with the potential to move up in the rankings.
Ezzard, the No. 34 athlete nationally in the 247Sports Composite, caught 50 passes for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2016.
The 6-feet, 195-pound Ezzard has visited the Tigers three times — more than any other program, including Georgia.
“When I went to a game there they played Arkansas,” Ezzard said. “It was a good vibe. The stadium is wonderful. It was packed.”

KN also had update on 4* S Brendon Harris out of Chattanooga. Apparently we are near the top of his list. Likes our business school and fact he could play early. As of now no leaders but says AU, CLEM, UF & LSU will get official visits tho he says TEN recruiting him the hardest. Plans on visiting for spring game where he will meet Greg Brown though it sounds like Tim Horton is his main recruiter
Sidenote kinda weird how Greg Brown has not talked to all these top DB targets. Sims is being recruited by Garner and Harris by Horton. It seems like he waits to talk to guys once they get on campus which not sure I understand

Sure do, especially when you are the size of a 7th grader in 11th grade.

Not sure that's accurate. (I think we need more time/proof)
I just read an article about Brown and Armor-Davis. He had a lot of great things to say about Brown and the article went into some of Brown's recruiting.
Seems like he's big on the in-person aspect recruiting, though. Mentions that he spends a lot of his recruitment focus being on the road and visiting recruits and schools.

Maybe so and probably recency bias because the last 2 safety articles talked about how they had not spoken to Brown yet which seemed weird to me. I get impression tho he does do well in person which is good. Will be interesting to see how he does this cycle

Auburn’s newest linebackers love that position coach Travis Williams was once in their shoes (SECCountry)
Really good article, recommend reading whole thing
quote:
Williams’ personal experience at Auburn has been an asset in recruiting the next generation of linebackers to the Plains. He carries that belief into his coaching, once the Tigers get them signed and on campus.
“I just never liked to watch a coach with his hand in his pocket out there coaching,” Williams said on National Signing Day. “I just try to coach how I played. Now, I haven’t been coaching 35 years, but I study linebackers. … So when I talk to a kid I’m telling him exactly what I’ve been through. I try to give him tips to do the things that helped me out along the way.”
That especially resonated with Britt, who committed to Williams and Auburn over several major Power 5 programs last October — right at the beginning of the Tigers’ defensive surge.
“I wanted someone to coach me who knows it,” Britt said. “Some coaches didn’t even play the game and try to teach you. But I wanted someone who played the game, knows the game and would be able to teach me.”
Britt found that in Williams, who played a year in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons. While a pro career didn’t stick for the undersized yet highly productive college linebacker, Williams took his experiences in the league with him to his coaching career.
“When I’m doing an evaluation, I try not to look at stars,” Williams said. “I can’t see what another team is recruiting. I try to look at it like the NFL. If I’m a scout for the Atlanta Falcons I can’t look at it and say, ‘I wonder what’s on the Carolina Panthers’ board.’ You can’t do it. You have to really trust your evaluation.”
Really good article, recommend reading whole thing

11 SEC players that will make a first-year impact in 201 (SECCountry)
quote:
Jarrett Stidham, Auburn
No. 1 junior college quarterback
Stidham lands at Auburn and changes the face of the West. His fit within Gus Malzahn’s offense? — ?though it’s still to be seen what influence new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey will have — ?is perfect, and he’ll help elevate the play of those around him.

Auburn RB target Tae Provens has Tigers ‘in it until the end,’ which could be before 2017 season (SECCountry)
quote:
On May 6, 2016, Auburn began its attempt at a 2-for-1 deal from Gurley, Ala.
That’s when the Tigers’ coaching staff offered a pair of deals to 2018 members of the Madison County football team. Matthew Flint and Tae Provens both got their Power 5 recruitments kicked off with an offer from a home-state SEC school.
Noted in the Wednesday notebook, Flint began picking up traction the last few weeks. It took a while for other programs to catch on to the outside linebacker’s college-ready ability.
The same can’t be said for Provens, a 3-star recruit ranked in the top 20 among overall prospects in Alabama. Soon after Auburn’s proposal, Tennessee, USC and Oklahoma extended scholarship offers to the 6-foot, 190-pound running back. LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State have all joined the party since the calendar turned to 2017.
Auburn’s early presence remains a determining factor.
“They’re going to be in it until the end,” Provens said. “They’ve been looking at me since my freshman year. Every year, me and Coach (Tim) Horton have kinda built a relationship. Talking on the phone with him. Talking on the phone with coach Gus Malzahn. We built a family relationship.”
Horton has been successful in north Alabama. He’s also been successful — and really it should go without saying — at finding the running backs he wants and securing them.
Provens appears to fit into that category in the 2018 cycle.

Montravius Adams doesn’t want cousin Big Cat Bryant following his footsteps at Auburn (SECCountry)
quote:
“He fits the mold. I think he can be a great player, especially with Coach (Rodney) Garner,” Adams said. “Coach G sees the talent and the future of the guy before that guy is the guy, if you know what I mean.”
Adams speaks from first-hand experience, having just finished up his best and most productive year at Auburn. As far as standards go, Adams set the bar high. He earned first-team All-SEC as well as All-America honors. That’s something Adams hopes Big Cat pays little attention to.
“I think he’s got a great future ahead and I don’t want him to follow my footsteps,” Adams said. “I want him to be better. Anything I can do, he’s my cousin so I’ll come back and help him with anything he needs help with.”

Auburn's top linebacker targets in 2018 class (AL.com)
Would love a class of Watson, Walker and maybe Channing Tindall. I like our chances early for all 3 as well
quote:
AUBURN'S TOP LINEBACKER TARGET
Nathaniel Watson (6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Maplesville, Ala.)
Four-star Nathaniel Watson (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) of Maplesville named Auburn his leader last summer and told 247Sports this week the Tigers are still the "team to beat." Alabama and Ole Miss are also in pursuit. Watson's great uncle and cousin both played at Auburn -- Tommie Agee and Harold Morrow. He is ranked as the nation's No. 22 athlete.
4 MORE TO WATCH
Quay Walker (6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Cordele, Ga.)
The four-star prospect is the former teammate of defensive end Markaviest Bryant, who signed with Auburn earlier this month. He is the No. 15 outside linebacker.
Payton Wilson (6-foot-4, 220 pounds, Hillsborough, N.C.)
Auburn offered the four-star prospect earlier this month. He holds more than 20 and told 247Sports this week he hears most often from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, North Carolin and Ohio State. He is the No. 11 outside linebacker prospect.
J.J. Peterson (6-foot-2, 210 pounds, Moultrie, Ga.)
Peterson is the nation's No. 50 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He is the former teammate of 2017 Auburn tight end signee John Samuel Shenker. Arkansas, Clemson, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina have also offered.
Adam Anderson (6-foot-5, 225 pounds, Rome, Ga.)
Anderson recently visited Auburn, but the Tigers will have to sway him from Georgia. The four-star prospect committed to the Bulldogs last August. He is the No. 4 outside linebacker in the 247Sports Composite.
Would love a class of Watson, Walker and maybe Channing Tindall. I like our chances early for all 3 as well
