Multiple reports surfaced on Saturday that 4-star Alabama linebacker commitment Markail Benton was taking an official visit to Auburn this weekend; however, he is denying those reports.

Benton, the nation’s No. 7 outside linebacker from Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.), told SEC Country that there was some confusion between him and his father, Chris Lee.

“I was supposed to go to Auburn today, and he (my father) thought I did, but I did not go,” Benton said. “I’m headed to the school because we have a basketball game tonight.”

Central High School is less than an hour away from Auburn, and it’s one of the biggest reasons why the Tigers were considered the favorites to land Benton before he committed to Alabama. Since his commitment to the Crimson Tide this past summer, Benton has not visited any other college.

He has, though, over the past few weeks, try to visit Georgia and Auburn now. He ended up canceling his trip to Georgia and now didn’t follow through with his trip to Auburn. He did take an official visit to Alabama last weekend.

It should be noted that SEC Country’s Auburn recruiting writer Benjamin Wolk has been at the Tigers’ football complex all day on Saturday and did not see Benton on campus.

So, after his desire to visit other schools in January, will Benton still sign with Alabama on National Signing Day this Wednesday?

Auburn's most reliable weapon the last two seasons is returning to the Plains for one more go-around, as kicker Daniel Carlson opted not to declare early for the NFL Draft and instead return for his senior season at Auburn. The two-time Lou Groza Award finalist gives the Tigers continuity and reliability in the kicking game, both on field goals and extra points as well as kickoffs, and he'll have his usual holder, Tyler Stovall, back with him. The two are about as in-sync as a kicker-holder duo can be, and that's nothing but good news for Auburn.

They also return long snapper Ike Powell, giving Auburn all three key pieces to their field goal unit back for another year.

The Tigers do need to replace punter Kevin Phillips, who held the starting job for the last two seasons. The likely replacement is redshirt sophomore Ian Shannon, who saw limited action last year in relief of Phillips.

With the Tigers seemingly set on special teams, this recruiting class won't be relied upon this upcoming season, but it does set the foundation for 2018 and beyond. With Carlson a staple of Auburn's special teams the last three years and this coming season, the Tigers are hoping his bloodline is strong, as the team has a commitment from his younger brother, Anders Carlson, a three-star kicker ranked as the No. 6 kicker in the country. The two will have a year to spend together on the Plains, and Anders will have an opportunity to perfect his craft alongside his brother before likely having the job handed over to him in 2018.

Auburn also has a commitment from long snapper Bill Taylor, a three-star prospect out of Tuscaloosa's American Christian who is ranked as the No. 1 player at his position in the nation.
