This is what's killing our defensive recruiting right now. We already saw it with McGriff and Devon Hunter. Markaviest Bryant had eliminated us early in the cycle because of turnover concerns. I feel confident Steele and T-WILL will be around for awhile if the Malzahn regime survives 2017 which should help but we will see

markaveist Bryant worried about our coaching turnover?? I thought Gardner had been here for a while. Isnt Bryant, M Adams cousin. Adams talks all the time how Garner made him the man he is today. Quit grasping at straws

He was worried about DC turnover. He has specifically told people that's why he didn't have AU in his top groups at beginning of season. I ain't grasping shite just sharing info

But for Auburn to sign Bryant, the Tigers are going to have to do some serious work. He has a good relationship with defensive line coach Rodney Garner, but he’s indicated in the past that three straight years of turnover at defensive coordinator made it hard for Auburn to sway Bryant this offseason.

He is full of shite of his interest in Auburn then. Our DC is staying and our D hasn't played better in a decade.

That article is from earlier in the season. He is no longer concerned about turnover which why we are running #2 now

KN made a good point that could help AU as he won't be able to unofficially visit Maryland that week. He also says MD still feels real confident. Just need to get him on campus next week and I think we will be ok

Some of you guys are gonna love this it looks like AU targeting another JUCO kid 3* OT Matthew Tanner. Will be interesting to see if they prefer him over Tucker. Personally I would rather take the incoming freshman

4* LB Tyler Taylor says he has a top 2 of AU & OK. LSU is running 3rd right now. He has already taken an official to Oklahoma so he will take on to LSU this weekend, one to AU next weekend and maybe one to Ole Miss on the final weekend. Apparently he is real close with Travis Williams

Auburn signee, cancer survivor Tashawn Manning joins 7 early enrollees on campus (AL.com)
quote:

Tashawn Manning's long, unexpected journey to Auburn finally reached its destination on Sunday.

The former three-star defensive tackle, who signed with Auburn last February, moved into his dorm at Auburn this weekend, more than a year removed from being diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia, a form of cancer. Manning arrived along with seven members of Auburn's 2017 recruiting class who enrolled early for spring.

"It feeeellllss good to be here WDE!!!" Manning posted on Twitter on Sunday evening.

A native of Apopka, Florida, Manning was diagnosed late during his senior season at Wekiva High, when he began experiencing shortness of breath. After a visit to the doctor, he received news of his diagnosis on Thanksgiving 2015.

A day later, the 6-foot-4, 270-pounder began chemotherapy to treat the cancer. He spent between three and four hours each day with doctors, even when he wasn't undergoing the chemotherapy.

Despite his diagnosis, Auburn remained committed to Manning and kept an ongoing relationship with him. This summer, following eight months of treatment, Manning was declared cancer-free, finishing treatments on July 10. He subsequently visited Auburn in late July.

"It was a giant relief knowing I don't have this weighing on my shoulders," Manning said in July. "I can focus on other aspects I want to focus on like football, school and stuff.".

He took online classes at Valencia College in Florida over the summer and during the fall, but will be enrolled at Auburn this spring. Whether Manning will count toward the 2016 class or toward the Tigers' 2017 class is not clear, though reclassification to 2017 would save him a year of eligibility.

"He's a guy we're very excited about in the future," Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn said on National Signing Day. "I really feel like it'll be a Shon Coleman story all over again. He's a tough young man.... He's got a great attitude, and we truly believe he'll be with us in a short period of time."

Examining Auburn’s 8 early enrollees who moved in Sunday (SECCountry)
quote:

Move-in day always is bittersweet.

For the college-bound players, it’s a transition from the dominance of high school life to the reality check of college. Then again, it’s an opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream and compete in a new environment. Prospects’ parents see the pros and cons. They’re able to watch their babies leave to experience something they’d always wished to do. At the same time, they have to leave their children under the guidance and supervision of a college coach who had to hard sell during the recruiting process.

And as recruiting readers (and writers), we transition from viewing these players as recruits to dissecting them as college athletes. It’s fun to watch the players’ growth and development through the years, but it’s also just a reality that media access to these players diminishes once they’re on campus. So some of the best moments we have with those players will be in the past.

With that said, here’s an all-inclusive look from each of the eight newcomers who enjoyed move-in day on Sunday. The contact period is about to hit full force midweek, so this is one of the last chances to do a quick look back. Each prospect has his recruitment broken down, and there is a best quote from all of them.

Good stuff in there on all our early enrollees

News, notes and recruiting scoop out of the SEC (Scout)
quote:

Underclassman of the Week

After starring in the freshman All-American game late Saturday night in San Antonio, 2020 athlete Kobe Hudson picked up offers from Appalachian State, Auburn and Georgia. The 6-1, 183 pound freshman scored a touchdown on offense and defense Saturday night and he is expected to be one of the most highly recruited prospects in the South for his class. He prefers the wide receiver position, but he is very good at defensive back as well. He grew up a fan of Auburn and he lives less than an hour from their campus. Hudson had a cousin, Quan Bray, play at Auburn, and he has a cousin playing at Georgia now in Tae Crowder. In 2016 as a freshman, Hudson scored a total of 14 touchdowns and he had over 800 yards receiving.

quote:

Prospect on the Rise

During the dead period, Malik Willis flipped his commitment from Virginia Tech to Auburn after playing for the state championship. He was a big part of the run that Roswell (Ga.) made to get to the Georgia Dome to play game 15. Willis finished with 2,562 yards passing and 27 touchdowns, then he added 1,033 yards rushing and another 10 touchdowns. He plays a lot like former Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall who made plenty of exciting plays with his arm and legs. Willis is currently ranked as the No. 73 athlete in the country, but that will change soon. When the final rankings are revealed by Scout in a couple of weeks, the Auburn fans will be very happy. Willis is such a natural athlete and he has so much potential at a number of different positions, but in the Auburn offense, he will scare defenses at quarterback.

That AU bump

Commitment Watch

A name not many have talked about a lot in recent months is Tamorrion Terry. The 6-4, 205 pound athlete out of Ashburn (Ga.) Turner County is one to watch. He is set to visit Auburn this weekend, and the Tigers have done a good job recruiting him. He still has some work to do academically, but he is close to making the score he needs to put himself into position to be qualified. Those close to him feel he will make it. The Tigers have been recruiting him as long as anyone, maybe longer. He has official visits scheduled to Mississippi the weekend after he visits Auburn, then will head to Florida State the weekend before signing day. Others continue to recruit and monitor Terry, and rightfully so due to his talent, upside and potential as a wide receiver. A couple of schools even like the four star as a defensive back. He really likes Auburn and Florida State right now. Florida was his favorite as a kid and the Gators have their eye on him as well. He could be on a visit and commit at any time, so he is one to watch.

I missed this over the weekend

Appalachian State, Auburn and Georgia offer freshman athlete Kobe Hudson Sunday (Scout)
quote:

"Georgia was the first school to offer, then I got offers from Auburn and Appalachian State too," said Hudson. "I played good in the game Saturday night and I guess the word got out.

"I was surprised by all of the offers."

Out of the three offers, Hudson has visited two of them — Auburn and Georgia. One is the in-state school and the other is less than an hour from home. He had a cousin that played at Auburn and another cousin is playing at one now.

"I have been to a Auburn more than I have Georgia. I have been to Auburn for games and stuff like that, but the only time I visited Georgia was for a camp last summer.

"Quan Bray is my cousin and he played at Auburn and Tae Crowder is also my cousin, and he is playing at Georgia right now."

He has interest in both schools, but one was his childhood favorite.

"I have been an Auburn fan since Cam Newton played there," said Hudson. "I still like Auburn a lot, but I am really open right now.

"With Auburn now, I really like the atmosphere there and the crowd is always great.

KN is doing a live recruiting chat, here are some nuggets

- Calvin Ashley is a major concern for the staff. Maryland folks are very confident but AU staff also feels good about keeping em they just know it's a fight. That official visit next week looms large. His parents are very involved in his recruitment and KN thinks they want AU

- Someone asked about Burns as a recruiter. Says that Oliver Martin is probably going to visit, we have reached out to 4* WR Jeff Thomas but not sure if feelings mutual & of course Tamorrion Terry who KN thinks is the best WR in GA. Says he understands ppl frustrated with Burns but after last year's WR class and lack of passing game this season was uphill climb. Burns will need big year in 2018

- Asked where he thinks we finish says top 12 likely, top 10 possible, top 8 could happen but have to really hit on some guys. Believes right now AU in good spot with Chase Lasater, Ryan Johnson & Tyler Taylor

- On Ryan Johnson says he still has to get into Stanford. Bama not really recruiting him, Texas/USC lurking. For now thinks AU the most likely landing spot

- Someone asked about Marlon Williams decommit that CPA just posted, KN says we could get involved and would probably get him if we offered but right now we have guys higher on the list

- Apparently we could be looking at Thomas Johnston as an H-Back as well also he would like to play baseball

- Unable to confirm if Hunter has spoken with Brown. Apparently Hunter has stopped talking to anyone. AU's coaches have spoken with his mom over dead period but haven't been able to talk to him much. VT of course feels most confident right now

Sidenote WTF is up with all these kids not talking to schools

- Was asked for new names to watch and mentioned 3* OT George Moore

Gus needs to close. But it is understandable why recruiting is a bit shaky given Gus will be on the block next season.
