Elite pass rusher Jarez Parks shares biggest factor in his recruitment (AL.com)
quote:

Auburn hasn't been mentioned as much with Parks, but that doesn't mean anything.

"They've always been in the picture," Parks said. "I'm very grateful to have an offer from them. Great school and program. Their players are very humble. That goes a long way with me. That reaches me to if I surround myself with people like that, I'll be very successful."

Auburn reached the Sugar Bowl on the heels of a strong defense.

"They overcame adversity," Parks said. "A lot of people expected them not to do so well when it came down to defense, but they came harder than ever and I was pleased with that."

Devon Hunter keeps Auburn options open after near commit (SECCountry)
quote:

“Basically I’ve got a list in my house actually of all the pros and cons for the schools. The schools I have the most pros in and like the most, I circle the answers. It’s kinda evened up right now. That’s why I pushed back my decision. I still need to check out the little things with the schools on my officials,” Hunter said. “I would say Virginia Tech has about two more pros than everyone else.”Devon Hunter by Jeff Sentell 42416a

Auburn held the advantage at one point, but that had a lot to do with the relationship Hunter built with McGriff. The Tigers haven’t calmed communication with Hunter just because McGriff is out. Those duties have now transferred to Auburn linebackers coach Travis Williams who will oversee Hunter’s recruitment until the new secondary coach is named.

Tigers commit Tadarian Moultry also is using his time in San Antonio for the U.S. Army Bowl to give Hunter his pitch.

But as Hunter admitted, the official visits in January will be a determinant for who lands the safety’s services. For now, Auburn is jockeying for position to even score one of those official visits.

The primary reason: McGriff.

He has two OVs planned. Hunter will visit Florida on Jan. 13. Alabama “should” receive the last official visit on Jan. 28. The week in between that?

“That should be Auburn or Ole Miss,” Hunter said.

There it is. The McGriff effect at work.

It shows how integral McGriff was to landing elite defensive backs. Christopher Henderson and CJ Avery both admitted last week at the Under Armour All-America Game that McGriff’s exit shifted their impressions of Auburn. Luckily for the Tigers, they have a solid quartet already on board — Malcolm Askew, Jordyn Peters, Carlito Gonzalez and Traivon Leonard — who look like they’ll stick around no matter what.

But Hunter is the big prize. Auburn will shoot to receive the official visit over Ole Miss and McGriff. If the Tigers can do that, Hunter will likely show a similar appreciation for the program, just as he has on his many previous visits.

“Auburn, I love that school. The personality of the school is really nice. The coaches there are like family. The players are like family,” Hunter said. “They play the best guys, too, so I love that about Auburn. They’re very competitive.”

5-star DT: Auburn 'different than other places' (247)
quote:

In the race for 5-star defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon of Leesburg (Ga.) Lee County, Auburn appears to have its work cut out.

Right now, he has Alabama in front by a "pretty wide margin."

And while Solomon isn't talking up Georgia that much at the moment, there is little doubt to most with knowledge of his recruitment the Bulldogs are very much a factor.

As for the Tigers?

Well, Solomon will visit Auburn officially on Jan. 20. That's a big weekend for the program as many elite targets and commits are expected to be in town.

With the Tigers, Solomon said he is impressed with "what they do on the field." Auburn, he said, has "got fight."

But that's not all. He just likes the atmosphere there.

"It's just different than other places," Solomon said.

Also includes video of interview with him

Just wanted to say what a TERRIFIC football player Auburn got in Malik Willis. I some him play two times this year against Buford and Grayson. He was the best player on the field or at least one of the 2-3 best regardless of the night. Kid is electric with the ball in his hands..

I called Barton the morning after the State Game and told him we need this guy a 4-Star sooner than later. I think he is a great fit at Auburn but he can play WR or DB all day long if something does not work out.

LOVE THIS KID, great get for Aub staff...

Just wanted to stop by and give my thoughts on recent commit..

Three-point stance: Observations from Future 50 (Rivals)
quote:

1. Most impressive prospects

2. OG Jamaree Salyer – Tackles usually get the most attention, but Salyer was clearly the dominant one and took a few higher-ranked kids to school. Georgia needs to keep him in state.

5. WR Justyn Ross – The best wide receiver from the state of Alabama since Julio Jones? He could be.

8. CB Myles Sims – Sims can be awkward at times, but his length and ability to change direction at his size as well as his potential as a huge corner or ball-hawking safety makes him special.

Army Bowl: Predicting commitments for five top prospects (Rivals)
quote:

4* S Devon Hunter

The skinny: There could still be a lot going on with Hunter’s recruitment but Virginia Tech and Florida are battling it out with the Hokies having a slight edge at this point. But Hunter is going to visit with the Gators later this month, so that could swing in their favor. Don’t count out Auburn, either, and watch to see if Clemson tries to get back in after missing out on four-star Xavier McKinney to Alabama.

Prediction: Virginia Tech. This one is still very close, but the Hokies have done a great job recruiting the in-state four-star and Virginia Tech also has a tremendous history of great defenses. Florida could be tough here, especially if Hunter is sold on being the next big-time Gators DB to be drafted. Also, if Clemson makes a run at him after losing McKinney, then anything could happen since the Tigers are so hot right now.

Army Bowl: Top Ten Performers at Midweek (Scout)
quote:

OT AUBREY SOLOMON - LEESBURG (GA.) LEE COUNTY

A five-star defensive tackle, Solomon has been in the backfield all week. His quickness off the ball has made him tough to contend with. The West linemen did a solid job on him in one on ones, but for the most part, he has been behind the line of scrimmage making plays. Solomon is uncommittted and considering Alabama, Georgia and mo

Not really telling considering they are all we have that are remotely close to capable of playing there

Is Alec Jackson not going to be a DE?

Almost everyone has him at DT. He is now around 270 and most expect him to play around 290-300 maybe more

Guess I am confused by depth concerns at DE. We only lose one DE from last season in Carl Lawson. In fact this past year we were down 2 of them and ended up being fine. I agree with AU should bring in at least one DE this cycle but I don't get the fear of depth there considering it's basically unchanged from last season.

If the concern is ability to replace Lawson then I agree. I am hopeful Holland will step up next season but we are counting on a lot of unproven talent to fill his role.

Personally I am more concerned about DT depth. We lost 3 from that spot. Russell, Brown & Williams all got good time this year and there is hope Antwuan Jackson can step in and be ready. Will be interesting to see if the bounce anyone inside like Marlon Davidson or Byron Cowart to fill Adams role but way more depth concern at that spot than DE

It is the pass rush we are concerned about, I doubt anyone is worried about their run defense.

All our eggs are in the Jeff Holland basket. We did the same thing in 2014 AND 2015 with Lawson and got burned.

We return multiple DEs but only 4.5 sacks from that position. None of these guys have ever produced as pass rushers and we are also losing some high quality DT pass rushers

That's fine, I agree with that concern but it sounded like people were worrying about numbers. We will more than likely have the same numbers at the position again next season

We have been an "all eggs in one basket" kind of team lately

Maryland's 247 site reporting that Calvin Ashley is decommitting from Auburn this morning. That'd be a freakin' shocker.

Ya just saw that... Would be a huge blow if we lost him. KN seems surprised by the report considering he has been saying everyone feels real good about Ashley on AU's side
