News, notes and recruiting scoop from the 2017 Under Armour Future 50 (Scout)
quote:

Curtis Dunlap Jr., the Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy product knows of just one school that will make the cut once it's time to release an official list of top schools, and that's the University of Florida. Dunlap, who will likely wait until next summer before making a decision, plans to visit a number of schools in the foreseeable future, including Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami and Texas.

quote:

Justyn Ross was one of the more dynamic wide receivers at the event and held that title among the bigger ones for sure. He is sharp with his cuts and he showcased his strong hands as well. Both in-state programs, Alabama and Auburn stand out to him.

quote:

Myles Sims was the most physical cornerback on the day and he does it all at a lanky 6-foot-3, which helps when the ball is in the air as well.

Really like how Ashley has looked so far. He's pretty physical. Not sure if he will be ready as a pass blocker to push for RT spot. Not sure what number Wooten is. Carlson had great onside kick that no one recovered

This recruiting class is pathetic. Other than QB, OT, and some linebackers, we have missed on everybody.

We have the #8 class in the country, #3 in the SEC West. We have nailed some of our biggest needs. This class is on pace to be another top 10 one. If that's pathetic to you then you might need to readjust your expectations. Have we missed on guys? Ya but everybody not named Bama misses on guys

Anders Carlson maximizes week of training with kicking coach Jamie Kohl (SECCountry)
quote:

If you scan from the trenches to the outskirts of the sideline, you’ll find another coach. One with far less notoriety, but equal effect on his pupils: Jamie Kohl. That name might not mean much to you.

But to potential college and professional kickers, that is the name to know.

Auburn commit Anders Carlson knows it as well as anyone. And this week in Orlando, he became more familiar with it. Kohl is the coach designated to work with the Under Armour All-America Game specialists — two kickers, two punters and two long-snappers.

In fact, Kohl is responsible for hand-picking the group of six to play in the annual showcase. Carlson was an easy selection. The Auburn commit is grateful for the chance to work daily with Kohl in a personalized environment.

“Yeah, it’s been very valuable. Every hour you can spend with him, you get better,” Carlson said. “Hopefully I got to be a better kicker these five days. That was the plan.”

Hearing Auburn may have reached out recently to 4-star WR Oliver Martin. He's an Army All-American so hopefully we'lll learn more at Army Bowl check-in today. He's in the game.

Moultry measured in at just a hair over 6-feet and 228 pounds. Not as tall as we all thought. Not a huge deal, but he has always been listed at 6-2.

Could earn a 5th star on 247 with a big week

Average rating is going down from last year. When you say fill needs, you mean we missed on one or two and filled a need with a backup plan. Hooray for filling needs.

Per Ryan Bartow: 4-star D-end Jarez Parks will OV to Auburn on Jan. 20.

I'll have a full Auburn-specific update later on.

We really need some edge rushers in this class. Not sure why we are going for all these tweener guys. But at least we have some DL depth now, so hard to really complain.

QB - 4* Jarrett Stidham
OT - 5* Calvin Ashley, 4* Austin Troxell
BUCK - 4* Tadarrian Moultry
ILB - 4* Kenney Britt
Nickel - 4* Malcolm Askew

Where's the backup plan? What position of need you think we have filled with a backup?
