Good bunt by Nuke

the Braves replaced Newcomb with Carle down 3 in the 6th, and put Camargo in the game.

Ender got replaced by Culberson in the 8th... Braves still getting shut out.

The Braves lost again and McCarthy went home that's all the news from ATL.

Last game before the break, also knows as Ender's day off:

No score til the 3rd when Swanson got an RBI double. Julio has been pitching great... at home btw.
Posted on 7/15/18 at 1:20 pm to dudeabides
Julio bunted Swanson over then Ozzie got all the way to 3rd on an infield hit thanks to throwing errors. 2 nothing with Acuna batting.
Posted on 7/15/18 at 1:23 pm to dudeabides
Freddie got an RBI double with Ozzie on base still in the 3rd, 3 zip.
Posted on 7/15/18 at 1:32 pm to dudeabides
End of the 3rd, Markakis got an RBI too, 4 nothing.

In true Brian Snitker fashion, he takes out Julio up by four runs and only 79 pitches. For frick's sake. 2 on and 1 out with the bottom of their order up and you take him out?
And frick you Chip for trying to defend the move.

I do like Biddle though. He seems to have come on pretty strong lately. At least Snitker brought in a guy who has been pitching well rather than Freeman and Moylan (who is back...ugh)

Tucker PH for Biddle and blasted one, 5 nothing.

Braves won 5 to 1, did they need that heading into the break or what? Nice pitching by Julio/Biddle/Minter They picked up a game on the Phillies too.

They need something to jump start them out of this slump. Hopefully today helped.

Does anyone else think the honeymoon is over and this is the team we'll see from here on out? It's sad to listen to 680 talk about potential trades and such when we have ownership that has no interest in the team or winning. I'll be absolutely shocked if any real move is made.

Sigh...
Whether we make a trade or not has nothing to do with the ownership. For frick's sake...

I’m just happy we are currently contending at the break - especially after that slump.

The homerun derby is tonight on Espn (good luck Freddie btw!):
What they say about his chances:
What they say about his chances:
quote:
Freddie Freeman, Braves
Why he's here: Maybe the front-runner for NL MVP honors, Freeman has 16 home runs and ranks fourth in the NL in OPS. Why he can win: He has a nice, easy swing that produces plenty of in-game power as is, but he's a big guy who might be able to turn things up a notch, as he swings from his heels. While he sprays the ball around in games, he has pulled 12 of his 16 home runs, and Nationals Park is a little friendlier for lefty pull hitters.
What can stop him: Freeman is more of a line-drive guy, with a fly ball rate of 25.3 percent (63rd in the majors), so he might not produce enough fly balls to go all the way.
One fact to impress your friends during the Home Run Derby: Freeman is the first Braves player in the event since Andruw Jones in 2005. Also, every Braves player to participate has lost in the first round.

AA interview with Mark Bradley. Pretty good read.

Because we didn’t know what the won-loss total would be. We didn’t know what to expect. We thought things could break right if guys had good seasons. “Mike Foltynewicz is talented; he could be an All-Star.” We had no idea if it would come together. Sean Newcomb the same way. We think, “Ozzie Albies is a great young player and Dansby Swanson should be better (than in 2017), and Nick Markakis can get better.” But we had no idea it would all come together and we’d be at this point. But if it happens, we’d better be ready.
So we saved some money and we have that available, and now – as the byproduct of the results – attendance is up, everything is up, the organization is doing much better. I deal with (Braves chairman) Terry McGuirk when it comes to this stuff. We’ve had conversations about it. We have money beyond what we’ve saved because of how well the club has done. I’ve been given very specific instructions, and I can shop in any aisle. I can at least have a conversation. I can tell you right now in all the discussions and all the players we’ve discussed, there’s no single player that we can’t afford. Where ultimately we’d have an (in-house) discussion is if we’re looking at adding three or four big-league guys at big contracts. That’s when maybe the numbers start to add up and we’d have to evaluate it. But one or two guys right now would not be a problem at all.

Look forward to seeing Acuna and Albies in the homerun derby some day.
