I may not understand completely. Would that mean we would have to sweeten the deal that much more? Since they are eating a giant portion of his contract?

It means that if they want a significant prospect offering in return for greinke then they are going to need to eat a lot of the $70Mish he is owed over the next 2 seasons.
If they are not willing to eat much money then they are going to get middling prospects in return for a 36 year old pitcher who throws 90 mph even if he is an all star
Don’t see any way the front office takes on anywhere close to $35M a year in payroll and don’t think Arizona eats much money without getting Anderson/Pache/Waters in return. I find greinke unlikely

I could easily see the Braves taking on Greinke's contract. Donaldson comes off the books and they won't really be paying anyone else as the team would be mostly set already.
He is signed through 2021 at 35 mil. But the important thing to keep in mind is that a large chunk of that was deferred. So, he becomes a free agent in 2022, but he'll be getting 12.5 mil a year for 5 years from 2022 to 2026.
That means that he is really only making 24 mil per year right now.
What the Braves should try and do is get Arizona to commit to paying the deferred money, and we'll take on the adjusted salary of 24 per year from 2020-2021 and whatever the prorated amount would be for this year. If they agree to that, then we'd likely have to give up a better package of players.
Another option would be for the Braves to pay the full 35 mil per year for the last 2 years of the contract, but Arizona would have to pay the money that had been deferred up to this point. This would require a lesser package of players.
Either way, the Braves would have the money available to pay him and it's only for another 2 years.

Who is the throw away kid beside Freddie? I assume that’s their child but damn it looks like he wasn’t wanted in the photo.
