FIFY. If Riley keeps mashing like this and it translates to the big leagues, he has to be in the lineup. It would be a crowded outfield and someone would have to go. That someone might be Ender in a trade.

Fried's pitching today and they gave Donaldson the day off. Ronald's leading off, Johan at 3rd. Markakis cleanup. Flowers catching.

Good move, IMO. He looked like he was running really gingerly when he scored late in the game last night. Two days off should do some good for him.

The Braves said Gausman is suspended 5 games starting now. Good thing it isn't 5 starts.

He looked like he was dying on that triple last night. Two days off will help

Ender got an RBI first run of the game in the 2nd!
Posted on 5/12/19 at 3:45 pm to dudeabides
Max Fried almost hit a homer but it was just outside the foul pole like feet.
Posted on 5/12/19 at 4:16 pm to dudeabides
Camargo got 2 RBI's in the 3rd after the jerks hit Ronald to put him on base he scored. 3-0.
Posted on 5/12/19 at 4:19 pm to dudeabides
Flowers got an RBI before the inning was over too, 4-0, there you go Fried.

Fried was giving up bombs in the 4th. 4-3 Braves still lead, barely.

Still having a one run lead in the 7th, Newk went and loaded the bases with one out and they replaced him with Winkler.
Posted on 5/12/19 at 5:55 pm to dudeabides
They got out of it with a strikeout and a diving Markakis catch.

Flowers hit a triple in the 8th and got an RBI. 5-3 Braves, but need more insurance.

Braves won! 3 in a row, Jackson saved Fried's W.

Great series that could have been a sweep. I'll take 3 of 4 and a 6-4 road trip, though. Well done. Braves of years' past would let a tough west coast trip bury them.
With today a much needed day off (to recover from the trip and to get a number of guys well who have been dealing with respiratory issues - per Kevin McAlpin), I have been thinking about the roster. I think I would like to see the following moving forward:
SP - Soroka, Fried, Folty, Teheran, Gausman. This needs to be the set rotation for the rest of the year barring injury and maybe a 6th man thrown to give everyone a day off. I think Folty will bounce back. He's clearly still trying to work some things out after missing all of spring training.
RP - Jackson, Touki, Newk, Kimbrel (signed after the draft) as my 4 main high leverage guys. With starters only going 5-6 innings at most, I'd use Touki and Newk for 2 innings at a time. Fill out the 4 remaining spots with whoever is going well out of Biddle, Venters, Minter, Carle, Winkler, Webb, etc. I'm not sure what the option years are like for these guys, so that has to be accounted for as well.
I'd bring up Riley right now and try and take advantage of his hot streak. Put him in left everyday, keep Acuna at leadoff, and roll with the rest of the lineup as is. Bring in Ender in the 7th inning for late inning defense, and have the bench be Ender, Culberson, Camargo, and Catcher. Personally, I'd dump the 13th reliever since my roster would have both Touki and Newcomb so that I can keep Joyce on as a LH bat with some power.

I like this a lot. That's a damn solid bench and your bullpen looks ideal.
I will say that I have concerns about Folty right now. His elbow gave him trouble throwing his slider when he was injured, and his slider still doesn't look good. I hope it is trying to get back into form instead of more elbow problems.

Pretty good article on Talking Chop about what to do w/ Austin Riley.
What should the Braves do about Austin Riley?

thanks for the link. and congrats on having the best user name on the board.
Decent article. Their suggestion about moving back to a 5 man bench is what I said, but they don't acknowledge the fact that they could easily have two starters in the pen that can go multiple innings, thus making the transition a little easier. Also, if you stop taking starters out at 85 pitches, then this can be managed.
Trading Donaldson or Camargo shouldn't be legitimate options. Doing this pretty much negates any club improvement that would be made by bringing up Riley.
I'm also not sure why simply getting rid of Joyce isn't an option? If moving to a 5 man bench isn't an option, and you bring up Riley to start, then you don't have a need for another LH outfield bench bat. Yeah, you lose pop off the bench, but you are adding significantly more pop to the everyday lineup.

That was the one issue I took with the Donaldson signing this off-season. Camargo had a very good season last year and signing a former MVP to play 3B was not going to allow Camargo to get more in game reps and sustain/improve upon his 2018 year.
In the waaaaaayyyy too early WC standings the Braves are only 1 game out, but if the Braves are still playing .500 ball in mid-July then I'd fully expect AA to be a seller - especially if Donaldson is healthy - and get some pieces in return for 2020 and beyond.
